Read on to find out more.

All your betting options

There are more than 20 different types of bets you can place in Roulette, each with different payouts. These include:

  • Outside bets

Red/black, odd/even, and high/low bets, each paying out 1:1. As well as column and dozen bets, which pay out 2:1.

  • Inside bets

These bets include straight-up bets, which pay 35:1, split bets, paying 17:1, street bets (11:1), corner bets (8:1), line bets (5:1), five-number and basket bets (6:1), as well as snake bets, which pay 2:1.

  • Call bets

Call bets are only available on European and French Roulette tables and include; Voisins du Zero, Jeu Zero, Tiers du Cylindre, Orphelins, and Neighbours.

  • Final bets

These are the bets made on the final digit of the numbers on a single-zero wheel.

  • Full complete bets

More common in high-roller casinos, this bet involves the table’s maximum betting limit and a progressive betting model.

Where to start

You might think that the best place to start is by betting on a number or combination that could provide you with a higher payout, but the best bets to place are in fact those on the house edge – the outside bets. Despite only having a payout of 1:1, so you’ll only ever get back as much as you’ve wagered, there’s almost a 50% chance of bagging a win when betting on even-money outside bets.

A deeper look

So, what exactly are the even-money outside bets? Well, if the name doesn’t give it away, choosing a red/black bet means that you’ll place your wager on either all the red pockets or all the black pockets, walking away with a win if the ball lands in any pocket of the color you’ve chosen.

Similarly, betting on odd/even numbers means you’ll receive a payout if the ball lands in a pocket with the corresponding number displayed, and high/low bets provide the same. On a Roulette wheel, numbers one through 18 are the low numbers, and 19 through 36 are the high numbers.

How to win

Once you’ve chosen whether to bet on red or black, odd or even, or high or low, you’ll have the best winning chances. What’s more, many Roulette betting strategies require you to bet on even-money outside bets, so you could research and implement strategies like the Martingale system, for example, to see if that’ll help you land a win.

It’s important to remember, though, that Roulette is the ultimate game of chance, and whilst you are never guaranteed a win, betting on the house edge does provide you with the highest winning chances. Whilst the lower payout means it won’t make you rich, it’s the safest option and preferred by many professional players. It could also mean that you lose a whole lot less and walk away with more. So why not give it a try?
