Among Us is scheduled to include a brand new massive map bigger than Polus, which is currently the biggest map in the game so far. The popular social deduction game went from a virtually unknown title during its release in 2018 to a colossal cultural phenomenon, so considerable that it was even selected by elected officials such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who streamed Among Us last month for voter awareness.
Among Us is an absolutely unique game. It features players taking the role of a crew of spacemen, tasked with finding out a menacing villain that creeps in their midst, perfectly disguised as one of them. It certainly reminds players of horror movies such as The Thing, but this scary theme is disproved by the game’s artistic visuals.
The characters in the game are alluring little bean-shaped astronauts and players can dress them up using funny hats and accessories. One map which helped in achieving the present success of the game is Polus, Among Us’s largest map. This map features a planetary base with a distinctive name, and the wintery atmosphere is a considerable reminder of John Carpenter’s frightening horror mystery, even if the visuals don’t portray the scariness at all.
As revealed in a recently uploaded devlog update on itch.io, a new map is currently in development, the first to be introduced to the game since Polus was launched last year, November 12, 2019. The main goal of the devlog was to explain the game’s anti-hacking procedures, most especially an account system that will be revealed soon.
However, the developers also took the time to talk about a brand new map which will be even larger than Polus. Innersloth announced that the new map is inspired by The Henry Stickmin Collection, a series of picking your own adventure games that served as the developer’s other famous project.
The devlog didn’t mention a specific release date for the new map, but Innersloth promises fans that they are working hard to be able to release it as soon as possible. In addition, the new map will be available to all players since it is free of charge.
The development team behind Among Us consists of only three individuals, so updates are obviously not something that can be quickly done. It’s great to witness that such a tiny team has a complete interest in keeping the game growing through content updates, even with such restricted means. It’s definitely impressive since the team is also working hard to address the abovementioned hacking issue.
It’s not every day that gamers see a game to such a worldwide rise in prominence and fame. It has even grown to rival Pokemon Go at the height of its stardom in 2016. The larger an online game like Among Us becomes, the louder and more demanding its fanbase gets.
It’s critical to remember that the developers are doing all they can to keep up to demands and keep the game running, and hopefully, the new map will help retain fans over the future of the game.
