Early on, data miners for Pokken had leaked Darkrai and Scizor’s inclusion to the roster whole months before any hints of additional roster updates were made by Pokemon Company or Bandai Namco. You’d think that a two-for-two track record would be pretty good and indicative that they’re on track for the third leak too.
As was revealed by yesterday’s release footage, the developers switched tracks along the way. Empoleon, the final evolution of Generation 4’s water starter, is nowhere to be found. Instead, the game’s arcade release is getting the poison-spewing, wall-clinging, bomb-laying toadlike Croagunk.
What’s particularly odd is that Croagunk already exists in the game as a summonable support character. Though Pokemon of the same evolutionary line already exists in the game – as with Fennekin (support) and Braixen (playable) – it was previously believed that Pokemon could only be one or the other.
This should mean it’s possible to have Croagunk support Croagunk… in a Croagunk-supported Croagunk mirror match.
