Chris G is one of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's mostprominent competitors. Over the years, he established a consistent record, and his unique talent contributed to a meteoric rise in the FGC. His teams have been designed to dominate and condition opponents into feeling hopeless — notably when characters like Morrigan, Doom, or Vergil are involved.
Now that he's closed out the year with an EVO championship under his belt, he can kick back and relax — at least until Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite drops.
It was only fitting that we connected with one of the scene's most prolific players to offer his insights on Capcom's upcoming crossover title.
Infinite looks like it will be the first crossover fighting game that’s more accessible to casual players. What do you think the game’s biggest challenge will be in maintaining enough depth for veteran players?
All I/We need is the ability to be creative, and play with speed. The endless possibilities are what makes a Vs game so great.
How important is it that Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite include the X-men and other popular mutants?
I guess its fairly important. Not having Magneto, Storm, Sentinel, and the others will be a hard truth to accept. In the case they aren't included, I'm pretty sure some really interesting characters will take their place.
We didn't care too much about some of the characters like Iron fist, Rocket Racoon, X-23, Super Skrull, Nova, and Modok. But after a while, we learned to enjoy their inclusion to the game. Plus, I learned a lot more about the characters' backstories.
Any players in particular that you’re gunning for when Infinite drops?
No. I want to beat everyone.
Do you believe that Infinite will create the same following from the community?
I believe so. A new Vs game? Who's not going to play it?
People are gonna wanna create new stuff and be cool. Plus, people like chaos and colors and salt. Regardless of what happens, I believe it will be a good spectating game.
Infinity Stones are coming back, and the sub-system could take cues from CVS2. What are your thoughts on these systems?
CvS2 is one of my favorite games because of grooves. So even if I play the same character as you, we can have different styles depending on which groove we choose. I hope that is the case with this game. It will make teams have different synergy and open up so many avenues for creativity, which is what I strive for.
What are some mandatory features that you feel would resonate with veteran players and new players alike?
With Good netplay comes a lot of new players, tournaments, content, so on and so forth. Please come out with [a complete game], and don't mess it up with similar issues that affected Street Fighter x Tekken DLC and Street Fighter V's launch.
Are there any creative, special modes that you’d like to see included along with the confirmed Story and Mission Modes?
Hmmm. I don't really care personally. Including a Mission mode and Story option is always good — but again — GOOD NETCODE!
Infinite looks like it could introduce a number of new faces. What characters would you like to see?
I actually hope to see a lot of new faces. Nightcrawler, Gambit, Charlie, Boom Boom (X-men Evolution), Pyro, and Leon are my personal picks.
