The EVO Player's Choice has been a major topic of discussion for the FGC over the past week. As the final hour draws closer, the race is coming down to a few games. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom andPokken Tournament have the best odds of taking the lead position, followed by Killer Instinct trailing in third place. So what does a player dedicated to multiple communities think about this year's race so far?
We reached out to Panda Global's Coach Steve to get some insight.
What do you think of this year’s lineup? Are there any specific games that shouldn’t have been included?
This year's EVO lineup is different. I'm not really sure what to make of it. I know I'll have three games to play at least so that's a good thing.
What makes Pokken Tournament appealing to you?
Pokkén is an interesting fighting game. it takes a lot of aspects from various games and puts it all in one. It's very well balanced and a lot of different characters get played and can win.
What justifies Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s inclusion on EVO’s lineup?
Marvel Infinite is on the horizon. It should have been certain for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to have one last EVO. A lot of top players are playing again and would play even more if it's appearance at EVO was [guaranteed]. But at this moment the future is unclear.
What’s your general opinion on the current SFV tier list?
Tier lists are always different depending on the person. As for the popular opinion that Urien, Guile and Laura are at the top. I think it's very clear how accurate that is.
Do you agree that Street Fighter V needs another balance patch before Capcom Pro Tour?
Yes. It is in desperate need of a patch before Capcom Pro Tour, in my opinion. This version does not seem too balanced to me. When I wasn't playing I wasn't having much fun either. It just didn't feel like Street Fighter anymore the way Season One did.
So to wrap up, what’s your favorite EVO moment in Marvel and Pokken Tournament?
My favorite EVO moment at Pokkén Tournament is hard to say, as I was also playing multiple games at the same time. While I did not catch everything, watching Tonosama take EVO, and showcase how cheap Braixen really was, was an enlightening experience.
As for Marvel, it's very simple for me. I was Top 8 in the world in 2014. So unless I win, no EVO moment for that game will be greater to me.
