Justin Wong is perhaps the most prolific fighting game player to have ever touched the sticks - and he owes a large part of that legacy to Marvel vs Capcom. With the new installment set to release late next year, and the PS4 version having just released, we caught up with JWong to hear his first thoughts on the trailer and how he thinks it will affect the FGC.
What were your impressions of MvC Infinite's reveal?
I personally was excited when I saw the cinematic trailer. It was awesome to me and I'm looking forward to seeing the whole cast and how the game actually works.
What are your thoughts on 2v2 as a whole - is it a good direction for the franchise?
I think 2v2 is awesome. We did it for X-men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs SF, and Marvel vs Capcom 1. So, to me, it doesn't bother me. I do think it might be easier for more gamers to understand if it is 2v2.
Who are your most wanted additions to the cast?
I really want Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Gambit but I hear that X-Men might not be in it [Editor's note: It's still a possibility].
Given your recent musings about retiring eventually, will this relight the Wong Factor for a time?
I don't see myself retiring for at least another five years just because Marvel Infinite will be an awesome addition to the Fighting Game Tournament scene.
What are your thoughts on the potential of Capcom adding MvC Infinite to the Capcom Pro Tour?
I would be very happy if MvC Infinite got added to the Capcom Pro Tour just because I love playing Marvel games.
Capcom seems to be making this more of a complete package than SFV was on release. Do you think that will help the casual base of the game?
I think it would help the casual base, especially if they add more single player content for people to get into it and learn it as well.
The fire seems to be back in the Marvel community with this announcement. What does it mean to you personally to see the Marvel franchise come back to Capcom?
I started with Marvel and it got me into the Fighting Game scene, so seeing it grow as I grow is awesome. I hope that it stays for another 10 years!
