G2 Esports roped in some of the best talent in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with a roster that's been coined "The French Super Team." The roster consists of Shox, kennyS, NBK, apEX, and bodyy with Smithzz as their coach.
Four of the five players have been true terrors in CSGO, but at various times. By uniting each dominant set-piece along with the consistency of the relatively fresh Alexandre 'bodyy' Pianaro, G2 seeks to begin a new era.
Interestingly, the squad left out Adil 'ScreaM' Benrlitom. The Headshot Machine has put out great performances during his time paired with Shox, continuing to solidify his nickname. In addition, ScreaM has great marketability with the playerbase — even launching his own mouse line with Finalmouse. However he wasn't one of the chosen few, leaving some wondering why.
I caught up with G2's founder, Carlos 'ocelote' Rodriguez, to talk about the roster, their player choices, and their potential to climb to the top.
"Adil has proven to be a fantastic teammate, a wonderful player and a friend," Carlos shared. "Ever since we formed Team Kinguin together, alongside Maikel and Fox, Adil and I have been able to develop a great relationship that will remain for long."
"Bodyy is another fantastic player with insane skill ceiling. To be fair, I wouldn't know who to choose from between the two of them! Both of them have great traits any team of a world class caliber would like to have."
Though they failed to qualify for IEM Katowice, G2 has time to iron out their strategies and cohesion for ESL Pro League Season 5. Ocelote believes in his new squad's potential and ability to fix what's not working.
"We are very impressed with the team's self reflection and ability to identify potential flaws," Carlos finished. "The lineup you see today in G2 is the result of exhaustive work and analysis from the boys. I'm very happy to see such levels of maturity in a team with this much potential. It makes us dream. It makes me dream."
The French Super Team's first ESL Pro League match will be on Thursday, February 9.
