Killer Instinct's New Mode Makes Single-Player Exciting Again
NEWS // Killer Instinct // By Chris Bahn // 6mo ago
Killer Instinct is looking to make single-player experiences exciting once again with the upcoming Shadow Lords release — a new highly anticipated addition initially announced earlier this year. According to the official KI Twitter account, fans won’t have to wait much longer as an official date has been finally been confirmed.
Shadow Lords can be best described as an amalgamated single-player mode that’s "part arcade mode, party story mode, and part roguelike (think The Binding of Issac where you only have one life and must start from the beginning if you die) — all rolled into one unique experience."
The ultimate goal is to defeat Gargos and his forces, who — like any deviant who comes to earth seems to be hellbent on taking over the world. Lucky us. "How fast that happens is completely up to how you play," says Microsoft Community Manager Rukari Austin.
Players can pick a character and then assemble a team consisting of any of the featured characters in the KI roster. Along the way, you’ll be able to earn additional items and craft new items as you progress through the ladder.
You’ll also be able to retain persistent items and elements through multiple playthroughs — something which Iron Galaxy predicts will be inevitable among diehard fans. A multiplayer component is also being planned, but no new details have surfaced at this time.
Though there’s still no official confirmation whether it will take the place of the existing story mode, avid fans will undoubtedly welcome this with open arms.
