New bugs in Overwatch or any other game always pop up when the game is patched, but there was a surprising amount of them with the latest Year of the Rooster event. Blizzard deals with most bugs while the changes are still in the Public Test Realm, but many of them slipped through the cracks this time around.
Smaller bugs are often overlooked or unnoticed in the PTR and they tend to be seen more as a patch goes live. Major issues with patches are easily found by PTR players, yet this patch in particular has seen more major game-breaking bugs than ever before.
D.Va ejects off Eco Point: Antarctica after her MEKA is destroyed
This bug has been hotfixed and should no longer be occurring on official servers.
Sombra's Translocator fails
When the Translocator is thrown at your own feet, the ability glitches out, and you won't teleport back to that position as you should. There's no official word on what causes the issue, but other players suspect it's due to the way the Translocator reads an open space when thrown.
Ana's Biotic Grenade fails to damage or debuff enemies
Blizzard said they nerfed the healing bonus on the grenade, but not the damage. Jokes aside, this does not occur in every match and the specific cause is not yet known. The health of Roadhog doesn't drop, nor does Soldier: 76 wake up from the grenade. Here's another gif from a different match, which shows Ana's point of view.
Zarya's Graviton Surge disappears or randomly activates
As shown, Zarya's ultimate activated onto the point after hitting the floor as she fell to her death. There was no angle to shoot it there and definitely no animation to show it's been triggered.
Symmetra's ultimate disappears on placement
This time, it's Symmetra's ult. Whether it's her Teleporter or Shield Generator, they will sometimes disappear upon placement, which defeats the point of using them.
All players spawning in the same room
This bug has occurred before, closer to launch, but it's sprung up again in the latest patch. Every player in the match spawns in the same room -- yes, even enemy heroes -- upsetting that match's direction.
Mei's wall bugs through walls again, but on Watchpoint: Gibraltar
Similar to her bug before on Eco Point: Antarctica, Mei can glitch her team through the walls now on Gibraltar. The dev team has already stated they are working on fixing the bug.
Hero ability keybinds are being reset randomly
This could be seen as a minor bug, but many players have noted that their keybinds to toggle different abilities are being reset randomly, leading to many failed reactions or taking time out of the game to fix the issue.
Most of these bugs are visual, but will still affect how a player reacts to their situation.
Reinhardt's shield not showing cracks
I've only found instances with this bug with players using the new skin for Reinhardt. Other skins don't seem to visually glitch like this.
Timers replacing Health and Ult charge
Yet another visual glitch, people are finding their remaining health to be replaced by either a timer or a set time. Others are also finding their ult charge noted in the same way.
The remaining bugs are self-explanatory and have not been very well documented.
- Players randomly leave team chat between rounds
- The Flagbearer achievement isn't being rewarded to some players
- The Hello emote doesn't show them waving or doesn't have the voiceline
- Teammate health bars disappear randomly
- Scoring a goal with the basketball doesn't trigger confetti
- Quick chat callouts for ultimate charge and needing heals haven't been showing up
Overwatch's Year of the Rooster patch has plenty of well-documented bugs and while Blizzard has taken steps to fix some, there's still no official word on the remaining.
