The 2017 Pokemon World Championships initial announcement curiously did not include Pokken Tournament.
Only the Pokemon Trading Card Game and the upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon are included in the announcement for the event, set to take place in Anaheim, California.
The 2016 edition of the Pokemon World Championship took place in San Francisco, CA, and saw Masami 'Potetin' Sato take the Masters division while Josh 'Woomy!gun" Simmonite won the Senior division.
This is quite odd for the game, which had a stellar 2016 after being featured at EVO, CEO, and Dreamhack Austin. It is, however, a fitting commentary on the state of official developer support from The Pokemon Company. It would seem with the lack of developer support that Pokken is likely not to be ported forward to the Nintendo NX - while other titles like Splatoon are still receiving new competitive programs (that include NX giveaways) would suggest that they are being ported.
While it's certainly not the end for the Pokken scene, it will have to grow stronger grassroots without developer support than it may have otherwise.
Update: It's important to note that the game could be added on later - but at present, there are no indications that the event will include Pokken.
