You may have heard people talk about being connected to 5G, and if you are not yet connected with this technology, you are missing a lot.
5G, otherwise known as 5th generation mobile network, is a powerful technology designed to virtually connect everybody and everything together – not just individuals but also machines, devices, and objects.
This wireless technology can deliver higher multi-Gpbs peak data speeds, more reliability, ultra-low latency, increased availability, enormous network capacity, and a more consistent experience for more users. With its enhanced efficiency and higher performance capabilities, 5G can empower new user experiences and connect new and various industries.
5G is as outstanding as it can be. It can do a lot of great things. However, unfortunately, not many areas in the world are connected to 5G. According to statistics, only 25 percent of the global population is connected to 5G as of 2021.
But, the multinational digital communications technology conglomerate Cisco will end that setback. It continues to exert efforts to bring 5G to several parts of the world, including the Philippines.
Bringing 5G across the Philippine islands
Philippine conglomerate firm NOW Corporation and telecommunications firm Now Telecom Company, Inc. have partnered with Cisco to bring 5G communication systems and networks across the Philippines.
News agencies reported late last week that the companies signed a memorandum of understanding, constituting plans and collaboration to bring 5G services across the country, aligning with contributing to the Philippines’ vision for 2030 and national transformation plan.
“NOW Group is determined to bring about true 5G and National Broadband Network (NBN) technologies in the Philippines, together with its partnership with the U.S. Government,” Mel Velarde, NOW Corporation chairman, told the media. “Cisco, being a technology leader, will definitely play a significant role in enabling Now’s network with best-of-class technologies.”
With this tie-up, NOW will be able to roll out advanced 5G solutions and services that will benefit the firm’s enterprise customers in various sectors, such as manufacturing, port operations, logistics, banking, and business process outsourcing.
‘New era of digitization’
Sanjay Kaul, president of Cisco’s service provider business in the Asia Pacific and Japan regions, also said in a statement, “Given the ongoing digitization of businesses, mobile carriers will require the advanced capabilities of 5G networks such as high speed, low latency, reliability, and dynamic provisioning. Through our partnership with NOW, we can support their network infrastructure’s transition into this new era of digitization by harnessing the potential of 5G technology.”
NOW Corporation’s core businesses are centered in the information and communications technology sector. Meanwhile, Telecom Company, Inc. provides broadband and fiber optic communication services to the higher-end residential and commercial areas in the Philippine capital under the Now Fiber Air brand.
