RTFKT Studios has announced a collaboration with software firm Daz 3D to use their technology to produce immersive, three-dimensional avatars for CloneX, their future nonfungible token (NFT).
RTKFT, founded by Chris Le, Benoit Pagotto, and Steven Vasilev, has risen to the vanguard of next-generation sneaker culture, fusing emergent technologies such as augmented reality, nonfungible tokens, and blockchain authentication, to name a few.
Their most recent project, a pfp avatar, will use Daz 3D’s PFP Utility Kit to increase the avatars’ capabilities in various situations, including gaming, videos, social media, and the metaverse.
Over 4 million artists and designers use Daz 3D’s software platform throughout the world, and their collaboration with RTKFT is likely to be the first of many collaborations between the two companies in the coming year.
Chris Le, the co-founder, and chief creative officer of RTKFT, spoke with Cointelegraph to learn more about the Daz 3D collaboration:
“I’ve always been a strong supporter of Utah.” Working with another established 3D company based in Utah hits home for me because I was born and raised here. Few people are aware that 3D was conceived at the University of Utah by Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar and former President of Walt Disney Animation Studios. I felt it was time to pass the light on.”
“Daz 3D and RTFKT will develop something unique other than the [Utah] teapot,” Le joked when asked about the architectural ambition for the collaboration.

This week, RTFKT showed off their future avatar project in Times Square for the JPG event that has everyone talking, NFT NYC.
The highly anticipated Clone X project, which is set to launch later this month, will have 20,000 avatars, half of which will be available in a 48-hour pre-sale event for existing RTFKT holders and the other half in a public market Dutch auction.
We asked Le about whether it has become critical for emerging NFT pfp initiatives to be “metaverse ready” when they emerge in the latter portion of our chat.
“Yes. This will catapult the era of augmented reality and virtual reality to new heights. People will desire a location to use their NFTs, whether it’s their own metaverse home, attending metaverse parties dressed in metaverse fashion, or being their own avatars.”
