First Party PlayStation 4 Games Getting Bizarre Updates Before PlayStation 5 Release

The launch of the PlayStation 5 is just a few weeks away and as of the current situation, Sony is preparing the bedrock for the system’s release. It’s almost difficult to imagine that earlier this year, thousands of individuals from the gaming community guessed what the PlayStation 5’s design might look like and what games will be launching along with it. Though, now it seems Sony has started releasing a few software updates intended for older PlayStation 4 games.

In addition to the latest update on the PlayStation 4, various first-party games have started to get different patches and updates. Now, it’s completely normal for titles to receive software updates, given the huge number of glitches the got reported over across dozens of games. However, what’s intriguing is that several of the games that got updates were released for years now.

One example is God of War 3 Remastered which was released on the PlayStation 4. While the game has been around for more than 10 years now, the remaster has only been released half that time which is still a significantly long time frame in terms of updating any given game. However, this was not the only game.

Alongside God of War 3 Remastered, there are also patches and updates provided to Astro Bot Rescue Mission, God of War 2018, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and a lot more. In terms of what each of the updates is for, barely to no detail is given aside from the usual bug fixes. The truth is, it makes a lot of sense as to why Sony is unexpectedly updating all of these games.

While the release of the PlayStation 5 is fast approaching, Sony and the respective developers in charge of every game are trying to improve their games so that they will run efficiently on the PlayStation 5. According to Sony, the PlayStation 5 is backward compatible with 99% of all PlayStation 4 games. However, in order for the next-gen console to achieve this, improvements need to be made to every game to be accurately optimized.

Regardless, it’s nice to see that Sony is thinking ahead in terms of how older games will run on the PlayStation 5. As of writing, the company is probably doing everything they can to guarantee that the release of the new console will be successful.

As a matter of fact, the PlayStation 5 accessories are already shipping to retailers ahead of the console itself. Thus, fans can rest assured that everything will be ready once the PlayStation 5 releases in November.
