Fortnite, the famous battle royale game, is releasing a new NBA crossover this week to commemorate the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Fortnite fans now have access to skins and hats representing all 30 NBA teams for the first time. Locker Bundles of pieces hand-picked by two NBA stars are also part of the crossover. NBA x Fortnite: The NBA State Farm Play-In Tournament begins on May 22nd, and the Crossover is now open.
While this is Fortnite’s first alliance with the NBA, sports crossovers are nothing new in the battle royale. Fortnite partnered up with Verizon earlier this year to create a football stadium in Fortnite Creative mode in honor of Super Bowl LV.

There were four football-themed game modes in the arena, as well as NFL star cameos. Verizon enlisted a group of NFL players to play in the Fortnite stadium’s football games in connection with Super Bowl LV, giving viewers an intense virtual environment at a time when in-person encounters were dangerous.
For the upcoming basketball season, it seems that Fortnite has the same idea. On Wednesday, Epic Games revealed that the In the Paint Package, which includes skins for all 30 NBA teams, is now available in the Item Shop.
A basketball hoop back bling and some trademark basketball emotes are included in the Shoot & Score Pack. NBA players Donovan Mitchell and Trae Young will both launch Player Lockers showcasing their favorite Fortnite pieces next week. A Gold Digger Pickaxe, a Cozy Chomps Outfit, and other items are included in the bundles.
The Fortnite x NBA collaboration isn’t just about skins. From May 19 to May 23, Fortnite will host an NBA Team Battles tournament in conjunction with the 2021 NBA Playoffs. To win points, players must simply join any NBA team in Fortnite and complete challenges. In addition to the rivalry, Epic Games teased an NBA partnership in Fortnite Creative that will be available next week.
The NBA crossover in Fortnite is a brilliant way to celebrate a big sporting event while still practically uniting sports lovers. The vast selection of skins allows players to express themselves and locate other players who share their passions when playing Fortnite. If the forthcoming Fortnite Creative NBA experience is just like the Super Bowl, both participants will have a great time.
Overall, when it comes to crossovers, the battle royale is a great example. Fortnite has also spawned collaborations with a slew of TV and film shows, as well as other video games. Epic Games have taken about anything from Street Fighter to Batman to Stranger Things and more. These competitions are a fantastic way to add variety to the game and attract fans from different fandoms. It’s still fun to see what Fortnite has in store for us.
