Most especially if you are a guy looking for women who can make your day, you would want to go ahead and watch animes. While many animes have men as the main protagonists, women characters eclipse these men when it comes to these ladies’ charisma and beauty. Have you heard of gyaru girls in anime?
Gyaru, also referred to as “gal,” pertains to a Japanese fashion subculture that has existed since the 1970s. That’s like classic! Gyarus are known for donning themselves with lots of accessories like hair clips, necklaces and bracelets, and wearing colorful makeup and nail polish. Some would also have their hair dyed – often blonde – and their skin tanned.
There are so many gyarus in the anime world, and PVP Live has picked out the best. Here they are.
1. Yukana Yame From ‘My First Girlfriend Is A Gal’
Leading the list is Yukana Yame, the main female protagonist and deuteragonist in “Hajimete No Gal” or “My First Girlfriend Is a Gal.”
The girlfriend of the main protagonist, Junichi Hashiba, Yame is a fashionable high school gyaru with strawberry blonde hair kept in a high ponytail, as well as alluring emerald green eyes and a busty chest. And, can you even believe that when wearing her standard school uniform, she likes its first few buttons undone? Va va voom.
2. Galko From ‘Please Tell Me! Galko-Chan’
Galko from “Please Tell Me! Galko-Chan” is a living testament to the saying, “Don’t just a book by its cover,” or you’ll be led to wrong assumptions.
With Galko’s bold style, those who don’t know her deeply would assume she is a wild and promiscuous party animal. While she is unashamed of wearing revealing outfits and has attention-grabbing social skills, Galko is a kindhearted and emotional teenage girl who gets embarrassed by conversations about intimate topics.
3. Mikoto Aiura From ‘The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K.’
Tanned skin, check. Blonde hair, check. Mikoto Aiura is the embodiment of a true gyaru.
In the story of “The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.,” Aiura is a soothsayer, also referred to as an oracle. She is one of the love interests of Kusuo Saiki, the main protagonist, and she often fights with Toritsuka Reita, a psychic in the story.
Also, Aiura is one of the few non-family members who know about Saiki’s powers, along with Reita and Touma Akechi, a friend of Saiki.
4. Ran Kotobuki From ‘Super Gals!’
Of course, will we ever forget about Ran Kotobuki from “Super Gals!”? If you were born in the 1990s, you would most likely come across this iconic anime where Kotobuki is part of.
“Super Gals!” is, in itself, a celebration of gyaru culture. Think of “Bratz,” but a Japanese version. The show features vibrant and fun-loving characters who are always up-to-date with the latest Shibuya fashion trends.
As the anime’s main protagonist, Kotobuki once wanted to follow in her parents’ footsteps and become a police officer. But, after learning she could not dye her hair and wear accessories on the job, she dropped that ambition of hers and decided to just become the top gal in Shibuya. Pretty interesting!
5. Rio Nakamura From ‘Assassination Classroom’
Rio Nakamura of “Assassination Classroom” may appear naive as you look at her for the first time, but she is no woman to take for granted.
Nakamura is a student in Korosensei’s Class 3-E of the Kunugigaoka Junior High School. Sure, she was a prodigy in her elementary days, but she found this lifestyle lonely, so she longed for everything to just be normal.
When she got into middle school, she began neglecting her studies but pursued her goal, placing her in Class 3-E instead.
6. Marin Kitagawa From ‘My Dress-Up Darling’
While gyarus are often attributed to hyper-feminine hobbies, you should take Marin Kitagawa differently. The gyaru protagonist in “My Dress-up Darling,” Kitagawa found her passion in doing cosplays and in otaku culture.
These interests of hers may be shocking to those who exemplify an extravagant and a carefree personality, and a glamorous fashion sense. Still, this gyaru is filled with true passion for her hobbies.
Her traits of being friendly and non-judgmental helped her befriend Wakana, her costume maker, who would become her love interest.
7. Yuzuko Aihara From ‘Citrus’
Yuzuko Aihara of “Citrus” has every stereotype of a gyaru in her. She tries to be still girly even if her school has a policy telling students not to wear makeup. She would also try to customize her school uniform but ends her up getting into trouble with the student council. Naughty, huh? That’s what the viewers love.
Aihara is the main protagonist in the anime, the stepdaughter of Shō Aihara, the biological daughter of Ume Aihara, and the older stepsister and wife of Mei Aihara.
8. Junko Enoshima From ‘Danganronpa’
Meanwhile, Junko Enoshima of “Danganronpa” may appear to you as an unusual gyaru because of her sinister outlook. But she can prove she’s one of the best gyarus in the anime world.
Enoshima is fashionable, bubbly, air-headed, and overly carefree. She loves wearing revealing clothing, too, and her iconic hairdo and outfit make her belong to this category, no doubt.
But, it is her personality that makes anime fans doubt whether she is really a gyaru. She is apathetic and manipulative, obsessed with despair. Actually, in the anime’s story, it is said that despair is the only emotion Enoshima finds enjoyable.
Those are eight of the most iconic gyarus in anime. Bubbling up are Kaede from “Gal & Dino,” Sakura Hibiki from “How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?” and Naruko Anjou from “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.”
Let your imagination run wild with these gyarus.
