If you love to play Wordle, you will also love playing its clone, Quordle. Merriam-Webster, the Encyclopedia Britannica subsidiary well-known for its online dictionary, has recently acquired the popular word-solving game, Quordle.
A low-key acquisition
However, according to media outlets, the deal’s terms have not been revealed.
Yet, the Quordle website now leads to its own page on the official website of Merriam-Webster.
Also, the creator of Quordle, Freddie Meyer, quietly released a statement at the top of the game’s tutorial section.
Meyer said, “I’m delighted to announce that Quordle was acquired by Merriam-Webster! I can’t think of a better home for this game. Lots of new features and fun to come, so stay tuned!” Meyer mentioned.
Quordle is one of the most popular imitations, or coles, of Wordle, following its success. Wordle, owned and published by The New York Times Company since 2022, is a simple online game giving players six chances to guess a five-letter word and provides feedback in the form of color-coded clues if they guess any of the letters right.
On the other hand, Quordle builds on the basic Wordle principle, except that there are four five-letter words players must guess simultaneously over nine attempts.
In Quordle, the tiles change color to indicate which of the player’s guesses are correct and whether a letter is included in the word but in a different location for each of the four words.
Congratulations, Merriam-Webster!
