New Map and Ghosts Introduced In Latest Phasmophobia Update

Phasmophobia, an online co-op horror game, received a patch this week that added two new ghost kinds as well as a new environment for players to explore. Previously, the large number of fixes, changes, and content additions were only available in beta.

Phasmophobia was launched in early access on Steam and VR platforms in September 2020, quickly gaining critical acclaim and unexpected success. Twitch broadcasters and prominent YouTubers like Markiplier and Jacksepticeye helped drive the game to the top of the charts, introducing millions of players to the indie multiplayer horror game over the Halloween season.

The game’s idea is straightforward: up to four players take on the role of ghost investigators in a haunted site, attempting to uncover the real nature of the spirits who stalk the Phasmophobia region. Players use a variety of gadgets and equipment to perform investigations and extra objectives while avoiding the dangerous spirits lurking around.

Kinetic Games, the creators of Phasmophobia, announced on Steam that the latest content update, which contains two new ghosts and a brand-new level, is now available to all players (via VG247). Yokai (a class of ghosts in Japanese folklore) and Hantu are the two new ghost kinds (meaning “ghost” or “spirits” in Indonesian).

The new level, Willow Street Home, is a “tiny house” that challenges players to use furniture as cover because there are no lockers or closets to hide in. New daily challenges, the option to restore corrupted save files, a profanity filter, and a sale button are among the other new features.

There have also been some terrifying modifications, such as ghosts approaching hiding areas if a player is seen or heard there. In addition, ghosts have a higher probability of interacting with objects and doors, as well as a tiny chance of roaming outside of rooms.

Along with the content updates and revisions, there are a number of welcome bug fixes and speed enhancements. When Phasmophobia was launched into early access in 2020, it was known for having issues with hackers and bugs, which is understandable.

The game’s single creator, Dknighter, had to deal with Phasmophobia being a smash phenomenon in the PC gaming market practically overnight. The developer said that he is recruiting an artist and a programmer to help with the workload and future development ambitions.

As the game nears completion, the increased workforce at Kinetic Games should make content additions for Phasmophobia more substantial. Bugs will most likely become less frequent as well, however Kinetic Games will remain a tiny company.

A complete release is still scheduled for 2021, according to the Steam website for Phasmophobia. Players may enjoy the new material and enhancements in the meanwhile.
