Fans Compare Spider-Man Remastered Peter Parker’s New Design to Tom Holland

Just today, Insomniac Games released in-game footage of the upcoming Spider-Man remaster for the PlayStation 5. The clips definitely helped increase the hype around this newer version, however, fans couldn’t help but be annoyed when they noticed that the studio redesigned Peter Parker’s face.

One other thing that many fans have noticed is the similarities between the new Peter Parker design and Tom Holland, the actor who currently plays as Spider-Man in the movies. Even though the actor has a wide fanbase, many fans still aren’t pleased by Insomniac’s creative decision.

Insomniac Games has clarified its reasons why redesigning Peter Parker’s face was necessary. However, fans are still taken aback and reacting negatively online. Many fans think that this new character model looks much younger than the original PS4 one, which doesn’t make sense.

After all, the Spider-Man title is supposed to be set a few years after Peter Parker became the beloved web-slinging superhero. Naturally, one would expect him to look at least a bit older and not revert in age instead.

Not only does Peter Parker now look significantly younger, but his character model looks very similar to Tom Holland. Many Spider-Man fans were pleased by how Holland portrayed Peter Parker in the movies, but the fact that the game version of Spider-Man now looks like him too didn’t sit well with players because they liked how the PS4 design was unique to that game.

Understandably, a lot of fans are quite confused by Insomniac’s decision to replace Yuri Lowenthal with Ben Jordan as the basis for the character model. Even though Lowenthal is still the one voicing Peter, the studio has gone and redid the facial capture using Jordan instead.

Insomniac Games hasn’t redesigned any other character in the upcoming remaster, but this is probably because there’s no other character in the game that’s as important as Spider-Man himself. Although, as always, this isn’t set in stone and could still change in the foreseeable future.

In the Spider-Man Remastered footage they released, we can see that the studio continued to use the character design for Doc Ock.

Although on the other hand, we won’t really know for sure if any other character had to be redone because of facial capture issues until the game gets officially released. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait that long anymore.

That being said, the decision to redesign Peter Parker won’t really affect your gameplay or the overall experience of Spider-Man. We understand that for many fans, they would have liked to have consistent character designs throughout both versions of the title, especially since a sudden and significant change can be quite jarring.

However, this seems to be a pretty minor issue if you really think about it. On the bright side, Spider-Man fans have a lot to look forward to, especially with the looming release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The original Spider-Man game is currently available to play on the PlayStation 4, but the remastered version for the PlayStation 5 is scheduled to launch this November 12, 2020.
