Phasmophobia is PvE Only And Will Not Add PvP Mode

A previously planned PvP mode for the hit ghost hunting game Phasmophobia has been officially canceled by its development team. The coop horror game has reached significant success since its early access started a few months ago. It’s achieved such a colossal success that the game’s single development team has been compelled to reevaluate his plans are for the future of Phasmophobia during its early access and beyond.

It’s not difficult to see why the game has achieved this much success. Phasmophobia still has quite a few rough edges, especially on its player models. However, its one of a kind take on climactic horror is recklessly successful.

It features teams of up to four players as expert ghost hunters, providing them inaccurate tools to explore a mysterious building and attempt to find a murderous spirit before it murders them. Its utilization of voice recognition and local chat helps it stand out from other online multiplayer games, and have launched it to popularity among group of friends looking for a way to spend time with each other during these trying times, as well as streamers and YouTubers finding new ways to amuse fans with a few scares.

Even while players are still enjoying scavenging haunted houses for spirits and ghosts, they’ve also been anxiously waiting for announcements for the future of the game. The developer has a DLC roadmap that is being updated frequently, and one entry, in particular, has caught the attention of fans.

Developer Kinetic Games shortly considered a 3v1 competitive mode where three ghost hunters are pitted versus one player-controlled ghost. In a recent interview conducted by IGN, Dknighter, Phasmophobia’s solo developer, discussed why the mode was removed from the roadmap. He explained that:

“Right now I have no plans to add another game mode, as it would turn the game into something completely different, and push the game away from what I want it to be.”

Dknighter revealed he wants to focus first on fixing glitches and bugs to be able to polish the game’s four-player coop mode, instead of introducing new features that change the game completely.

The absence of a PvP mode will likely frustrate a lot of fans, but it’s far from the only thing on the game’s roadmap to look forward to. Dknighter has pledged to add more maps and features to broaden and enhance the classic coop gameplay and while he’s shown intent to focus on fixing bugs and other gameplay updates, these other new features will certainly make their way to Phasmophobia soon enough.

The game is one of the many surprise hits that have arrived in the video gaming industry this year. It’s great to know that gamers who have been separated by the global pandemic can still have fun together and get scared out of their seats. The PvP mode getting scrapped might be frustrating news, but Phasmophobia will always be an unforgettable experience and one that will certainly get better as time goes on.
