The Pokemon Company and Canon Collaborate to Release Pikachu Camera

In an unexpected collaboration, The Pokemon Company and Canon have partnered together to create a one-of-a-kind Pokemon-themed camera called the Canon iNSPiC Rec Pikachu. As the name suggests, the camera will feature the adorable and iconic Pikachu, but other Pokemon will be making a cameo appearance as well.

Even though Pikachu isn’t the sole focus of every story that’s set in the Pokemon world, it’s safe to say that Pikachu just might be one of the most popular creatures in the franchise. This is most likely due to the fact that Pikachu is pretty much present in almost every episode of the Pokemon animated series. After all, he was the first-ever partner Pokemon of Ash in the anime.

As such, it’s quite common for the adorable pocket monster to make guest appearances in other aspects outside of video games. For instance, there’s the Pi!car! project led by Toyota, which is basically a Pikachu-themed car that features cutting-edge technology.

Now, we have the soon-to-be-released Pikachu camera. The Canon iNSPiC Rec Pikachu comes in the color yellow, with a Pikachu in the front and a red dial situated on the back which is supposed to look like the cheek of Pikachu.

That being said, if you don’t like the default Pikachu design for some reason, there’s a couple of faceplates you can choose from which features not only Pikachu, but other iconic Pokemon as well like Raichu and Pichu.

What’s interesting, though, is the fact that the unique Alolan Raichu isn’t featured in the faceplates. What’s so great about this camera is the fact that it has a Canon Mini Cam smartphone app that you can connect it to. This allows you to share your pictures with friends, family, and other photography enthusiasts.

It’s definitely worth noting that this camera is only available in Japan right now and sadly, there is no news about an international release at the moment. This isn’t really that surprising, though, since it’s common for exclusive Pokemon items to be released in specific countries or regions only.

One other example we can think of is the giant stuffed Snorlax plushies that were released in Thailand.

As mentioned, the camera comes with faceplates but each owner will receive a randomized set. More specifically, every owner will receive the default Pikachu faceplate, but the other two faceplates will be randomly chosen from the eight options.

That being said, we wouldn’t be surprised if there are some fans that would feel frustrated that Pikachu is the only Pokemon that keeps getting recognition. For example, those fans of Pokemon from Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield only get the Galar starters in the faceplates.

Not only that but since the faceplates you receive are random, there really is no way for you to guarantee that you will be able to receive a faceplate that you want.

In any case, this collaboration could be a good indication that The Pokemon Company is ready to wholeheartedly accept photography as a major part of the franchise. After all, fans are looking forward to the New Pokemon Snap that is set to release on the Switch.
