Pokemon Go Celebrates Day Of The Dead With Special In-Game Event

Pokemon Go is commemorating the Day of the Dead with an exclusive in-game event beginning November 1, 2020. The augmented reality game was launched last 2016 and quickly became a huge cultural phenomenon.

The summer of that year saw people out in flocks, bonding together in order to catch Pokemon and beat Gyms. It achieved such fame that even then-presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton mentioned it in a desperate attempt to connect potential voters.

After shifting the world’s social landscape for several marvelous months, Pokemon Go hit a bit of a slide. The uniqueness of the game wore off and players realized that Pokemon Go was lacking a significant amount of features and had a lot of bugs to fix.

But kudos to developer Niantic, the development team has been continuously enhancing every feature of the game since then and has released countless updates to enhance the quality of the game and make more Pokemon available to catch. Improvements and exclusive events are still being added to this day just like the recently teased Halloween event which will highlight creepy ghost-type Pokemon like Yamask.

And as stated by Pokemon Go Hub, Niantic’s joyful plans extend even after Halloween has ended. On November 1 and November 2, trainers in Latin America will get the chance to participate in an exclusive Day of the Dead event which will feature improved spawn rates for Pokemon depict aspects of the traditional Dia de Los Muertos festival.

Litwick, Duskull, Cacnea, Roselia, Sunflora, and Cubone will show up more frequently in the wild while Litwitck, Drifloon, Duskull, Shuppet, Absol, Misdreavus, and Ghastly will be more attracted to incense. In addition, Duskull and Murkrow as well as both the normal and Alolan forms of Marowak can also be encountered when finishing research tasks.

To mirror the original Pan de Muerto, Pokemon Go will be making puffins as rewards via the Go Battle League reward tracks. Since the festivities will only last for two days, so Latin American players should join in while they can.

None of the above-mentioned Pokemon are particularly exclusive, but the thought that the developers put into choosing Pokemon that decently depicts the holiday is a really nice move. Pokemon Go seems to be broadening its reach in a lot of exciting ways. For example, the game commemorated Paris Fashion Week last month featuring very stylish Pokemon.

Obviously, The Day of the Dead is a much more significant holiday for a lot of people, and seeing it celebrated in a popular video game like this will likely attract more players. It’s quite impossible for Pokemon Go to reach the massive popularity it had back when it was first released.

The adoration and fervor that clutched the eyes of the public in the summer of 2016 might have been a once in a lifetime moment. However, it still remains a solid game and it has adapted quite well to the lockdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

This new event provides players the opportunity to commemorate the Day of the Dead with their favorite Pokemon right by their side, and that alone is a really special feature added to Pokemon Go.
