The Pokemon Company and Artist Katy Perry Collaborate for Pokemon’s 25th Anniversary

The Pokemon franchise is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, and it appears that the company will be partnering up with none other than Katy Perry, the famous American pop singer and songwriter. The first game that kicked off the now massive franchise was Pokémon Red and Blue, which launched in Japan in 1996 and then later in North America in 1998.

On the other hand, Katy Perry is an incredibly successful artist who, so far in her career, has received numerous awards, including five American Music Awards and five Billboard Music Awards.

The Pokemon Company revealed last year that this year’s anniversary is going to be big, as the company will be celebrating 25 years of cartoons, games, and other forms of media. Pokemon Go, the AR mobile game by Niantic that took the world by storm in 2016 and remains popular to this day, will be celebrating its 5th anniversary this year as well.

As such, there’s a boatload of exciting events and content that Pokemon fans can look forward to in the coming months. Pokemon Go’s Countdown to Kanto event is also ongoing right now, which gives players the chance to explore different iconic Pokemon locations before finally arriving to Kanto, the very first region introduced in the game.

As The Pokemon Company is gearing to celebrate 25 amazing years, the company seems to have sealed a collaboration with Katy Perry to kick-start the event. The 25th anniversary celebration will reportedly have special promotions for Pokémon Trading Card Games as well as music collaborations.

The music collaboration, which has been called P25 Music, will be working with the Universal Music Group in order to produce new songs from well-known artists. As you have probably guessed by now, Katy Perry will be one of these artists. According to the artist herself, she’s been a fan of the franchise ever since she was young, so we’re excited to see what kind of music will be brought forth from such an avid fan.

A new 25th anniversary video was released recently, which briefly teases the collaboration. It’s definitely a crossover that no one expected, but we’re excited about it, anyway.

Without a doubt, 2021 will be a big, electric year for the Pokemon franchise, especially since it will be hosting two significant anniversaries. When Pokemon Go was launched five years ago, it brought a breath of fresh as well as innovation to an aging franchise that may not be as big as it used to be.

The mobile AR title encouraged and motivated fans to get up and go outside just so they could find and catch a variety of Pokemon within the vicinity. In more ways than one, Pokemon Go helped the fans relive their love for the franchise. At this point in time, Pokemon has a massive roster of creatures; starting from the original 151, there’s more or less 898 Pokemon right now, and that number continues to grow.

Pokemon was a vital part of many gamers’ childhood, and the franchise definitely deserves a big celebration. The fact that this year’s anniversary will involve famous names such as Katy Perry will only make things even more ambitious and grand, perfect for a beloved franchise such as this.
