Mario Fans Speculate That Princess Daisy May Be A Playable Character In Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Nintendo left fans in the dark regarding Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury for quite a while now, but fortunately, it appears that this is no longer the case. The company recently revealed a myriad of information about the upcoming title and its new mode called Bowser’s Fury.

Nintendo released a trailer yesterday that showcased details about the new mode, but now, it appears that a new overview trailer has been released as well and it reveals even more details about the game in general, including new online and co-op modes.

Naturally, fans were overjoyed to finally learn more information about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, especially since the game’s release date is drawing ever closer—specifically on February 12, 2021. As expected of any community, the fans were quick to dissect and analyze the trailers in order to gather any information they could.

Not only will Bowser Jr. return, but the upcoming title will apparently introduce new cat-themed enemies as well. However, one part of the trailer caught the fans’ attention, which led many to believe that Super Mario 3D World will be adding a new character to its roster.

Across the different trailers, there were four different cats that fans have never seen before with the colors green, pink, blue, and black. These colors appear to represent the four different playable characters that have been confirmed for the game, namely Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and Rosalina.

However, there’s one calico cat amongst the group that doesn’t seem to belong, and now fans believe that this orange cat could indicate that Princess Daisy will be added to the game as a playable character. Of course, this led to discourse and countless theories over on Twitter, making the Princess one of the website’s trending topics.

The most prominent theory for Bowser’s Fury goes like this: the playable characters have been transformed into cats, maybe even by Bowser, and it’s up to Mario to save his friends and stop the fan-favorite antagonist from wreaking even more havoc. Since the different-colored cats seem to represent the different cat suits worn by the playable characters, then fans speculate that the orange calico might be a new playable character that will be introduced in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.

The possibility of Princess Daisy being featured in a Mario game is quite rare, so much so that one Twitter user notes that if their theory is correct, this would be Princess Daisy’s first time to have a playable role in a mainline Super Mario title. As such, many fans are crossing their fingers for this to be the case.

While many instantly made this connection due to the fact that the calico’s color matched Princess Daisy’s orange dress, other fans delved even deeper into this theory. These dedicated fans noted that in Super Mario Land for the Game Boy, Princess Daisy was the ruler of Sarasaland.

Now, back in Japan’s Edo Period (1603 to 1868), people used a calico textile commonly known as “sarasa” in Japanese. Even though this lesson in history seems like it could cement the theory, fans know enough not to get their hopes up—not until Nintendo itself officially reveals it.
