Respawn Entertainment May Be Working On New Project

For the past couple of years, Respawn Entertainment was able to add several incredible games to its repertoire, including popular titles such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Apex Legends, as well as its most recent VR release Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond.

The studio and its more or less 300 employees were acquired by Electronic Arts in 2017 and hasn’t stopped developing games since. As a matter of fact, there’s a new job offer at Respawn Entertainment, which could possibly mean that the studio is working on a brand-new project.

According to the listing, the developer is looking for a generalist software engineer. Usually, every job offer on Respawn Entertainment’s website has a specific game attached like Star Wars or even Apex Legends to let interested applicants know which game they’ll be working on.

In the case of the generalist software engineer position, however, it only vaguely states “New IP Incubation Team.” We speculate that this means Respawn Entertainment is currently working on a new IP but it’s most likely still in the early stages.

Since the job listing specifically says “new IP incubation,” this unfortunately indicates that the IP won’t have anything to do with already-existing franchises such as Titanfall or Star Wars. On the bright side, most of Respawn Entertainment’s recent games have been well-received by fans, so a brand-new IP is undoubtedly an exciting concept to look forward to.

From what we can see, Respawn Entertainment is definitely capable of impressive range when it comes to its game design. After all, the developer was able to release an action-adventure game for the Star Wars franchise, a game that’s exclusively for VR, as well as a first-person shooter all within the last two years.

Respawn Entertainment marked its beginnings with the release of Titanfall in 2014. However, the developer hasn’t released a new title for that franchise since 2016. There were rumors circulating in the past saying that a third Titanfall title is in the works. If this is true though, the fact that Respawn is currently working on a new IP could hinder the game’s progress.

Electronic Arts has also confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will have sequels at some point, as it’s the first game in the franchise. So, fans can rest assured that they can look forward to more Star Wars content in the future. As for the new project, however, this is still a mystery to us all and will remain so until the developer will make official announcements.

There’s not a lot of information as well on the job description that could give us a hint as to what this new IP could be, except for a short bullet point in the “Why Join Us” section that says “Pioneer new, practical technologies to enable ‘adventuring forever.'” So despite the fact that details are scarce about the game itself, this bullet point could be a hint about the gameplay technology used for the new project.

Respawn Entertainment continues to be busy working on the games it still supports right now. Add a brand-new IP to the mix and the developer definitely has a busy 2021 ahead of it.
