Much to the surprise of fans, Skunkape Games announced today that a remastered version of the original Sam and Max: Save the World will be released early next month. A few months ago, a VR installment of the Sam and Max series was announced entitled Sam and Max: This Time It’s Virtual, which is set to release in 2021. This revitalized the series for the first time in so many years.
Now, it appears that fans won’t have to wait until next year if they’re craving for more Sam and Max content. Skunkape Games will be the one developing this remaster, and it’s scheduled to release on December 2 for the PC and Nintendo Switch.
The game was entitled Sam and Max: Season One during its original run. As a matter of fact, it’s one of developer Telltale Games’ earliest titles that really piqued the interest of many people, so much so that media outlets and fans alike consider the Sam and Max episodes by the studio to be one of its best projects.
If you missed out on this series the first time around, you will be given a second chance with Sam and Max: Save the World Remastered. The new developer, Skunkape Games, released a brand-new trailer for the upcoming game today as well, which you can watch below:
Sam and Max: Save the World Remastered will contain all six episodes from the original Sam and Max: Season One, so you will be able to experience everything from the initial run only with a new coat of paint.
If you’re unfamiliar with the franchise, Sam and Max was originally a comic book series by Steve Purcell that later became an animated series. In 2006, however, the dynamic duo starred in Telltale Games’ episodic adventure of the same name.
Featuring a canine detective and a “rabbity-thing”, the Sam and Max series has you fighting crime as a self-proclaimed Freelance Police. In Sam and Max: Save the World Remastered, specifically, former child stars appear to have been hypnotized and the titular characters are on a mission to figure out who the culprit is behind this.
With this upcoming remaster, you will be able to enjoy the classic duo and their misadventures in enhanced graphics. In addition to that, there are five brand-new tracks to enjoy as you play the game.
That being said, there’s one thing worth noting on the game’s Steam page. The storefront shared a few fun facts regarding the development of Sam and Max: Save the World Remastered by saying that “a small group of the original developers” worked on this upcoming game “with the blessing of Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell.”
Even though Telltale Games has returned to publishing games recently, many initial developers from the studio went their own separate ways and established studios of their own.
One of these studios in question is Skunkape Games. As such, it’s safe to say that long-time fans don’t have to worry about Sam and Max because the video game franchise is definitely in good hands.
