Recently, publisher SNK confirmed that The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny was going to be released on the Nintendo Switch some time in the future. The original game was released in the 2000s on the Neo Geo Pocket Color.
For a little bit of context, the Neo Geo Pocket Color was a short-lived console. Production for it was discontinuied after three years, as such, The Last Blade: Beyond The Destiny never got to shine as much as it should have back then. Now, more gamers will be able to experience it either for the first time or for nostalgia’s sake.
The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny is now officially available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $7.99 as a special edition. Those who play the game on the Switch will notice that an overlay of the original system is on the screen. This is because the screen of the Neo Geo Pocket Color was square.

To add a bit of flavor, you can even change the design and color of the virtual Pocket Color. The Nintendo Switch version of Beyond the Destiny contains the first and the second game rolled into one story-rich title with intensive battles.
Upon playing, you will first have to play through the contents of the first game, which will help you earn points so that you can purchase and unlock extra features. After reaching a sufficient amount of points, you can proceed to unlocking the second game and its contents.
Getting this Switch version of the game means that you will be able to access different modes. Just like most video games, The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny will have a Story Mode where you get to follow the playable characters on their journey.
There’s also the Survival Mode, which is where you get the chance to fight numerous enemies. Last but not least, the Training Mode allows you to warm up and test out the game first before diving in.

On the downside, it appears that not all the playable characters will be available in this version, which means the roster of playable characters has been reduced. This fact, albeit disappointing, won’t make the game less fun to play with though.
The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny for the Nintendo Switch has two exclusive mini-games and power-scrolls that you can unlock by simply playing the game. On the other hand, you also have the option to play in multiplayer mode, as you face off with other players either through tabletop or handheld mode.
Despite its simplicity, Beyond the Destiny has a multitude of content that will surely keep you entertained. Both Japanese and English fans will be able to play the game, and with a file size of only 130 MB, it will barely take up any space on your Nintendo handheld console.
It’s so great to see that Nintendo is bringing back long-forgotten titles from classic consoles. Recently, it was revealed that the very first Fire Emblem game will be released on the Nintendo Switch before the year ends as well.
