Ubisoft plans to use “dynamic NFTs” in its games, beginning with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

Ubisoft Quartz, an NFT platform, was released earlier this month. The games publisher has now joined with the cross-chain cloud storage service aleph.im to further its development.

According to a Medium post on the Aleph.im blog, Ubisoft plans to incorporate dynamic NFTs. The article is vague about what “dynamic” means, but it appears that this would allow some attributes to be added to NFTs based on their previous owners’ in-game histories.

The growth of Aleph.im’s technology has revolutionized the game by allowing the creation of Dynamic NFTs with metadata that evolves as they pass from player to player. Players will be able to see information on who players previously possessed the things they have retrieved, including player names and achievements, thanks to Aleph.im’s technology.

The gaming community harshly panned Ubisoft’s foray with NFTs. According to reports, their YouTube introduction video earned many dislikes.

Previously, YouTube eliminated the ability to view Dislikes, said to be a move especially to protect advertisers, although certain Chrome extensions may still access them. Ubisoft appears to have removed the introduction video since then, however, reuploads are still online.

Like many other AAA game publishers, Ubisoft is frequently chastised for its flagrant usage of in-game microtransactions. Many in the gaming world believe Digits, as Ubisoft refers to their dynamic NFTs, is just another revenue grab.

Digits will first appear in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, an upcoming game. According to Ubisoft, they will have simply decorative impacts and will not change gameplay.
