In contrast, CBDC’s responsibility would be held by the central bank, which would also release the digital token. The central bank would have to keep the reserves to back up the liabilities.

Understanding Bitcoin

Meta Platforms, Inc., Facebook’s parent company, will devote approximately 20 percent of its overall expenses and costs to Reality Labs in the upcoming New Year, despite questions about the business division focused on virtual and augmented reality, and the so-called metaverse, Bloomberg reported.

The project, given by Facebook chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth in Monday’s blog post, is little changed from the 18 percent of spending Meta Platforms devoted to Reality Labs during 2022’s third quarter. That means most of the company’s investments will continue to go toward what Meta distinguishes as its “family of apps,” which comprises Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

“We continue to direct the majority of our investments toward our family of apps as we believe strength in the core can support an ambitious agenda for the future. As also reflected in our Q3 results, about 80 percent of Meta’s overall investments support the core business, with the other 20 percent going toward Reality Labs,” Bosworth’s blog said. “It’s a level of investment we believe makes sense for a company committed to staying at the leading edge of one of the most competitive and innovative industries on earth.”

Doubts

In 2022, Meta stock is down almost 65 percent, and some have questioned Meta chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg’s pricey bet on the metaverse, which comes as the company has cut other costs, not to mention widespread layoffs. 

Reality Labs reported a loss of $9.4 billion from operations through the first nine months of this year. By comparison, Meta’s family of apps brought in roughly $32 billion in profit during that same period. 

Bosworth said 2022 had been more difficult than expected. 

He said, “Economic challenges across the world, combined with pressures on Meta’s core business, created a perfect storm of skepticism about the investments we’re making.”

Still, the chief technology offer added, pulling back on future bets to focus on short-term goals alone can bring “disastrous consequences.”

In other words, the Google Pixel Tablet could finally be coming to buyers, or at least one of them, as it recently leaked on Facebook Marketplace in the United States, together with the speaker docking station. The two’s price is $400, but nothing is official as of the moment.  

Last May, Google teased the Pixel Tablet and later gave people more information during the Pixel 7 event. The company released more details in October, but nothing has been official since then. 

The photos from the Facebook Marketplace listing show off the tablet, including the Pixel Launcher in tablet form. It looks like a real deal as the wallpaper is aking to the Feathers collection of the Pixel 7 series.

Talking about specs, the tablet has 256GB of storage, likely with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and a Tensor chip, first- or second-gen.

Modders Remaster The 1st Star Wars FPS After 3 Years Of Work

The predecessor to the “Jedi Knight” series, “Star Wars: Dark Forces,” recently got a remaster from modders. Independent software developers – LuciusDXL, Gilorem560, and Winterheart – just released the first complete build of their Force Engine, which is an open-source version of “Dark Forces.” It features high-resolution graphics and support for current-generation hardware.

Known as LucasArts’ first-person shooter game, “Dark Forces” was launched back in 1995, immediately drawing comparisons to the genre-defining game “Doom.” 

“Star Wars: Dark Forces” follows the game’s protagonist and playable character, Kyle Katarn, a mercenary working on behalf of the Rebel Alliance. Katarn discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project of the Galactic Empire, which involves developing a series of powerful new battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers. 

This game received a lot of positive reviews after its release, going on to sell more than a million copies by 1999. Its triumph helped launch the “Jedi Knight” series that started with a 1997 sequel, “Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2.”

The Forge Engine blog announced, “After three years of development, I am ready to announce the Version 1.0 release of the Force Engine. “The Force Engine is a project with the goal to reverse engineer and rebuild the Jedi Engine for modern systems and the games that used that engine, Dark Forces and Outlaws. For Version 1.0, Dark Forces support is complete, but Outlaws is not yet playable. Full Outlaws support is planned in the future for Version 2.0.”

Similar to “Star Wars: Dark Forces,” “Outlaws” was a first-person shooter LucasArts launched in 1997. Set in the Wild West, the game follows retired U.S. Marshal James Anderson, who seeks to bring justice to a gang of criminals who murdered his wife and kidnapped his daughter. This game uses an enhanced version of the Jedi game engine, which was first seen in “Star Wars: Dark Forces.”

“For Dark Forces, the goal is for the Force Engine to act as a viable replacement for DosBox and the original executable for most players,” the development blog added. “The Force Engine provides modern conveniences and control methods and removes the need to set up DosBox and deal with cycles-based bugs such as getting stuck on ice or having the missiles that the final boss fires move too fast or not move at all.”

Moreover, the blog also said the Force Engine “supports modern graphics processing units and high-resolution software rendering” but also features “the original 320 x 200 fixed-point renderer” to keep the “DOS experience for those who want it.”

Regarding the installation, the Force Engine blog said gamers need the original game to be able to play, similar to a traditional source port. 

“The Force Engine replaces the executable, not the game,” the blog further noted.

First-person shooter video game “Star Wars: Dark Forces” by LucasArts was released in 1995 for MS-DOS and Macintosh, and for the PlayStation in 1996.

New Year, New Phone: OnePlus 11 Confirms Official Launch This February 7th

Following a series of teasers and leaks, OnePlus has finally and officially announced its plans to launch its next-gen flagship phone, the OnePlus 11. 

According to the teaser photo posted on the official Twitter of OnePlus, the phone will debut this February 7th, alongside the release of other new products.  

OnePlus is a Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. OnePlus is a subsidiary of Oppo.

Launch event in New Delhi, India

The teaser image on OnePlus’ official Twitter account features a photograph of the phone and details of the launch. It reads, “Cloud 11. A OnePlus Launch Event.”

Meanwhile, the caption reads, “February 7. #OnePlus11 5G #OnePlusBudsPro2”

So, it is now clear that the launch event will happen this February 7th, and the company also revealed it is happening in New Delhi, India, adding, “Witness the Shape of Power.”

OnePlus 11 will clearly be the show’s star, but other new products are also coming your way. One of those will be OnePlus’ second-gen premium TWS earbuds, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2. 

It is expected to rival the Galaxy Buds2 Pro and the Google Pixels Buds Pro. The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 has also leaked in the past.

Everything we know so far about OnePlus 11’s features

Despite limited official details yet from the company (perhaps they will reveal it on the launch date), rumors are circulating regarding the features of OnePlus 11, and we will go through them right now.

If we are going to look at the official teaser image, the phone shows a circular camera module with three lenses and a flash. 

And if there are features that OnePlus itself has confirmed, it is that it will have an alert slider and Hasselblad branding. These two features were left off the OnePlus 10T in 2022.

Other rumors say the phone will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, set to be the next flagship chipset from Qualcomm, and will power many high-end Android phones in the first half of next year.

People are also predicting the return of the 6.7-inch 120Haz QHD+ AMOLED display, an increase to up to 16GB of RAM, and a massive 5,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging in this new phone. 

As for the camera, the rumors predict that the punch-hole selfie camera will be 16Mp, while the rear three lenses will be made up of a 50Mp main camera, 48Mp ultrawide, and 32Mp 2x telephone. 

The predictions also specified the sensors: a 50Mp Sony IMX890 main camera, 48Mp Sony IMX851 ultrawide, and 32Mp IMX709 2x telephoto.

Work with the diversity of color.

There’s a great diversity of colors in nature itself, green lawns, colorful fruits and berries, flowers, etc. Here it is important to your imagination and ability to see. Having different colors in the frame will do the job for itself, but if you put in the effort – you’ll get fantastic photos!

Pay attention to the appearance of your portrait subject:

  • If it’s a blonde – she will look winningly against a background of white hydrangeas with lush white flowers. If it is a brown-haired man with brown eyes – a rock of brown will work for him as a background.
  • If your subject is a child with big blue eyes – make the background a blue lake. Such analogies can also be made in relation to the object’s clothes, but from the first example, it should be clear how it works.

Of course, in order to be able to work with this, you have to have knowledge in the field of color theory. The most basic thing is the color wheel. The principle of work is the following: the opposite colors in a circle are the colors that are ideally combined. For example, if your subject is wearing a green shirt – take a picture of him against a background of red roses.

Don’t be afraid of the effect of blurring the subject in the photo

This tip will help you add creativity to your shoot. What it takes:

  1. Find another object in the foreground (flowers, tall grass, something else);
  2. Place your main portrait subject at a considerable distance from the secondary subject (the one that will come out in the foreground of the frame), and advise you to assume a staged pose. Yes, it may not seem natural to you, but otherwise, you will get the effect of just a bad/random shot.
  3. Set the aperture to f/2.8 or higher, and focus on the front subject. If the camera is trying to focus on the main subject, select the single-point AF area mode and the focus point you want.

There are a lot of nature portraits, and they are all very monotonous. You can introduce variety through your subject’s actions. Make use of props (a fruit basket, a blanket, an umbrella), preferably natural for the location and the time of year. A picnic in nature can be an idea for your portrait shoot. Suggest that your client squat on a rock, toss autumn leaves in the air, roll up his pants and walk into a river, embrace flowers, or tuck them into his hair. Your subject’s imagination may be sparse because of the stress of the shoot, so help and prompt them.

A combination of natural and artificial elements

How to implement this tip? It’s very simple. After you have flowers and fruit in your frame, use a bench, a cozy folding chair, or balloons. This will add personality to your photo shoot. You will be able to convey the feeling of reconnecting your client with nature.

In order to make large-scale shots it is better to get acquainted with the area beforehand. But if you haven’t already done so – first find a suitable landscape, then frame your subject. You can always make a good portrait out of a shot to scale by post-editing.

“Final Fantasy” gamers and fans, there are more reasons to rejoice now. Square Enix, the company behind popular role-playing games like “Final Fantasy” and “Dragon Quest,” has announced it will release the “Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster” game series for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. How exciting is that? Read on. 

Aside from this announcement, the official Twitter of @FinalFantasy also tweeted, “The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Experience these classics individually or as a bundle when they launch digitally in Spring 2023.”

So there you have it, it is launching in the spring of 2023, and fans can purchase the games individually or as a bundle. 

However, the “Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster” is not new. It was already launched last year for PC and mobile devices. Now, it seems it is making its way to gaming consoles. 

Square Enix did not give a specific release date. Instead, it gave spring 2023 as the release window. But surely, we are going to find out soon, perhaps. Having springtime said, gamers can get it between late March to late June. 

The “Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster” will include the same games. That is, all “Final Fantasy” games from one to six, otherwise known as I to VI, are part of the Pixel Remaster. 

Here is the good news. Players can already pre-order to physical game collection on the Square Enix store. 

If you are willing to spend and invest more, then you can instead obtain the Final Fantasy I to VI Pixel Remaster -FF35th- Anniversary Edition. Aside from the games, this edition also has various limited-edition collector items. 

It includes the game package for the six games, a Goods Box that has a two-disk Picture Vinyl Record Set with a download code for the MP3 version, a 128-page hardcover pixel artbook with art from all the six games, and Pixel Figurines of characters from the six games. 

Moreover, both the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions also include a Lenticular Sleeve for the game container.

It is strongly advised that you start with the Pixel Remaster and do not buy the Anniversary edition yet unless you are totally sure that you will like the game. But of course, you can always buy the latter if you have the means. 

Previously, Square Enix released the “Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster” game series for Steam and mobile devices. The games are two-dimensional remasters of the franchise’s first six main numbered titles.
