G.I. Joe and World of Tanks have teamed up for a rare crossover in the online war tank simulator. Cobra Commander and Duke will fight once more, except this time in a way that they haven’t before.
Since it arrived in 2010, Wargaming Minsk’s World of Tanks has enjoyed a lot of popularity. As World of Tanks collaborated with Silent Hill on a Halloween update last fall, the game is still supported. Now, the development team has worked on content for the game with G.I. Joe.
Cobra Commander and Duke have new tank types (skins/camo) that will be available in the game on March 18, 2021, when they bring their fights to World of Tanks. Players should choose a side in the war between Cobra and G.I. Joe that has raged for over 50 years.
The Premium American TS-5 tank destroyer can be customized with the G.I. Joe Breakthrough Tank model, while the T-54 first version can be customized with the Cobra Combat Operations Assault Tank-style.
This isn’t the first-time developer Wargaming Minsk, and publisher Wargaming have collaborated on a game crossover with another intellectual property or outside source. WWE content, for example, was added to World of Tanks last year.
Crossover content and partnerships, in addition to in-development updates and limited-time events, are excellent ways to raise game popularity. Fans of a particular entity may be more apt to try a game if it includes crossover material.
Oversaturation will make a game sound like a publicity trick, so developers should still tread carefully. However, if the crossover seems inevitable, such as G.I. Joe hopping into a tank (a series based on military-style battles), it always works out.
