Though it has been more than four decades since the “Gundam” franchise began, and there have been so many mecha animes released recently that seem to eclipse “Gundam” – think of “Brave Bang Bravern!” and “Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture” – “Gundam” still has plenty of new things to offer.

This October, the franchise is releasing a new show titled “Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.” In this edition of our blog, we’ll reveal everything we know so far about this upcoming series and five reasons to watch it.

‘Gundam: Requiem For Vengeance’

This is an upcoming Japanese sci-fi anime series set in the highly acclaimed “Gundam” mecha franchise. Its story happens against the backdrop of the Universal Century timeline during the One-Year War. Universal Century is the original timeline of the “Gundam” metaseries.

Specifically, its plot unfolds during the last months of the Zeonic War for Independence. This is everything we know so far about its storyline. It’s not a lot, but fans can expect a narrative within the context of this historical war.

“Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance” is directed by Erasmus Brosdau with the script by Gavin Hignight. It brings together the minds of the Bandai Namco Entertainment, Sunrise, and Safehouse teams.

Reasons To Watch It

1. It’s Historic As It’s Using Unreal Engine

“Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance” is hotly anticipated because it will use Unreal Engine for its graphical pipeline. Unreal Engine is a real-time 3D creation tool, a technology first showcased in 1998 in the first-person shooter game “Unreal.”

Aside from TV content creation, this technology is also used for game development, linear film content creation, architectural and automotive visualization, broadcast and live event production, and training and simulation, among other real-time applications.

It’s several notches up from previous “Gundam” shows. With Unreal Engine, this upcoming “Gundam” series will undoubtedly look amazing.

2. It’s A Fresher Take On The Classic Conflict

What does this mean? Well, since it is set in the intense last months of the One-Year War, the show offers a fresher perspective on this landmark event in the Gundam universe. Prepare to witness high-stakes fights and deep-rooted tensions defining this iconic anime timeline.

3. You’ll Witness Intriguing Character Dynamics

You’re bound to see compelling new characters in the show, such as Iria Sorari and the Red Wolves division, who will add more depth to the already exciting narrative. What’s more, their struggles and motives will contribute to an engaging story that will resonate with the viewers emotionally. With such superb character development paired with intense action scenes, it is truly captivating.

4. The Timeline Is Rich With Story

Aside from its setting, the timeline where the story happens, which is within the early Universal Century timeline, gives way to the idea that its production team won’t find it hard to tell its story. The Universal Century timeline is already heavily populated with narratives, so there are a lot of storytelling opportunities.

5. It’s Streaming On Netflix

Netflix has been chosen as the official platform where to stream “Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.” With this, there’s no need to catch airing dates and times on TV, as well as search for a good re-release online, as you can simply launch your Netflix platform and start watching.

“Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance” will have six episodes and will launch this October, according to media reports. But that schedule is still subject to change.
