When you own devices such as Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, S7, or S9, you can sometimes get the irritating “No supported app for this NFC tag” pop-up, which is pretty common in these devices. Pixel 3a and S10 users have also complained about this issue after upgrading the device to Android 10. If you are already among the people facing it and have to dismiss the pop-up every time you interact with your phone, here is how you can fix this error.

But first, what is the pop-up all about?

What Is The ‘No Supported App For This NFC Tag’ Pop-Up About?

The “no supported app for this NFC tag” error happens when an NFC tag without a compatible app on your smartphone comes in contact with the device, prompting an action that cannot be taken. This could be your travel or bank cards, or just another NFC tag you had lying in your pocket.

4 Ways To Fix The Error

Turning off the NFC and payment feature is the fastest way to get rid of the annoying pop-up that keeps interrupting your phone usage, but NFC can also be a frequently used feature for some individuals. Here are four guaranteed effective ways to fix this issue.

1. Register Your Cards

If the problem happens because of your payment cards coming in contact with your phone, you must register your cards in the payment app of your choice. Wallet apps such as Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and others support adding cards that can be utilized to pay for your phone. You can use this feature to add your cards to the app and eliminate the error. Easy peasy.

2. Use A Wallet With RFID Blocking Technology

If you keep your wallet and phone in the same pocket, you can also use an RFID blocking wallet to protect your cards against unauthorized NFC transactions.

Not only will this remove the error message, but using an RFID wallet will also protect your cards from getting read by an NFC terminal without you explicitly taking your cards out, an instance known as RFID skimming. Alternatively, you can use small aluminium sheets to protect your cards from being read.

3. Place A Piece Of Sheet Between Your Phone And Your Cards

Sometimes, you really do not need to think too hard about resolving the problem. If you do not want to buy a new wallet cover, you can place a sheet between your phone and your cards. Try an aluminum sheet with a 1.2-millimeter thickness; hopefully, this will solve the pop-up issue. If you cannot find a sheet with that thickness, you can wrap your cards with aluminum foil instead.

4. Disable NFC On Your Phone

This shall be your last resort: to disable NFC on your phone outright. However, do keep in your mind that disabling NFC means you would not be able to make contactless payments with your phone. Here are the steps should you want to use this approach.

First, open your phone settings and tap Connected devices. Second, tap Connection preferences.

Third, tap NFC. Fourth and lastly, disable the NFC slider.

After doing those, you should not see the “no supported app for this NFC tag” pop-up error now.

Wrapping Up

The “No supported app for this NFC tag” pop-up can get as annoying as it can be. But, by following some of the steps discussed above, you should be able to fix the error in no time.
