The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are reportedly now in the works at Samsung. It is highly likely that the South Korean technology giant will conduct a Galaxy Unpacked event this August to announce these foldables. But leaks are already coming forward as early as now.
Credible tipster Ice universe revealed on Twitter critical details about the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5.
According to this tipster, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip will feature the new water droplet hinge technology and new screen technology. Both of these devices will provide IPX8-rated water resistance.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to also feature slimmer bezels around the inner foldable display. @UniverseIce also added that the Z Flip would house an almost square-shaped design that measures approximately 3.4 inches.
An earlier report carried concept renders of the device. The device may also feature another small cover display, which can present information like the clock, battery status, and AR emojis. Meanwhile, the larger external display may show notifications and offer access to widgets.
The tipster also said the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5’s size would just be 0.2 millimeters different from its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.
“The size of Fold5 is only 0.2mm different from that of Fold4, which can be almost understood as the same size. However, after folding, the gap disappears and becomes thinner, reducing the thickness to 13. x mm,” said the tweet.
They added that Fold 5’s outer screen will still be 6.2 inches. It appears such because of the implementation of the new hinge. Therefore, the gap between the two halves will reduce. Thus, when folded, Z Fold 5’s thickness will be around 13 point something millimeters. While Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 weighs about 263 grams, Z Fold 5 is likely to weigh approximately 254 grams.
Similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the Z Fold 5 is also expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy chipset. Speculations also stated that the device is bound to feature a 50-megapixel (main) + 12-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 10-megapixel (telephoto) triple camera unit, which is the same camera setup that is available on Samsung Galaxy S23+.
“Still no rated dust resistance, what the heck,” said @AaronBobeck in the comments section.
Meanwhile, @Exec_Matrix1214 said, “I’m totally okay with outside ratio being same size. Great for one handed use. Now we just need no more crease and epic battery life.”
