Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Holds Double XP Event To Commemorate New Year

The release of Activision’s Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War was led by one of the best in-game events of the year, as fans could play and watch the first-person shooting game’s trailer in the Call of Duty Warzone battle royale.

After Black Ops Cold War released it was incorporated with Warzone similar to the franchise’s past title, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, and that implementation is being commemorated with an exclusive promo for the New Year.

Winter-themed events are common in most video games, especially based on holidays like Christmas. However, titles such as Animal Crossing New Horizons have also been preparing for the coming of the New Year by giving new items for players to collect. According to Treyarch’s Twitter post a few hours ago, the developers are planning to help fans celebrate the coming of 2021 with more of a casual present.

There will be a double XP event taking place on both Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty Warzone beginning December 31st at 10 AM PT. Unlike the past events, like the Double Battle Pass XP event between December 22nd and 28th, it seems the New Year’s event will only involve basic level experience. With this said, the event is scheduled to last until January 4, 2021, at 10 AM PT, which should make it the ideal chance for players to catch up if they just started with the game during the Christmas season.

Some players likely wish Treyarch’s offer extended to other in-game features including weapon XP, but it is great for the developer to give something extra to do during a long holiday weekend. The fact that this freebie is permanent for each player during the event period also puts it certainly above the Double XP tokens of Black Ops Cold War, which have been denounced for being active while players are not even inside a match.

Raven Software and Treyarch’s latest Black Ops entry has been denounced for a number of reasons, such as containing a myriad of bugs that are apparently expected with any new Call of Duty release and lifeless split-screen support. However, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War has still performed well, setting a digital sales milestone for the series during its release.

There are certainly plenty of Call of Duty players active in both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War during the New Year long weekend who will take advantage of the Double XP event.
