A rare Ape-type CryptoPunk was sold for 2,500 ETH, which equated to nearly 10.3 million USD at the time of sale.
The (second) most valuable CryptoPunk
This is the highest on-chain sale of a CryptoPunk NFT to date, but it falls short of breaking the overall record for the most expensive CryptoPunk. According to Reuters, CryptoPunk #7523 sold at a Sotheby’s auction earlier this year for $11.8 million USD.

One of the properties of CryptoPunk NFTs is what makes #4156 so rare and valuable. #4156 is one of only 24 pieces of the type “Ape.”
An inside look at NFT marketing
NFT YouTuber Hustle Millennial explains how to market an NFT collection in one of his videos. According to him, it is critical to match each of the collection’s unique pieces with certain traits known as Properties by OpenSea. Rare properties, such as the Ape type, indicate that certain NFTs in the collection are more valuable than others.
It is remarkable for the CryptoPunks collection that owners of the pieces frequently identify themselves with their NFTs. The 10 million USD CryptoPunk belonged to 4156, an OpenSea user who appears to be a professional NFT flipper. In October, that user also sold a comic NFT featuring Pepe the Frog for over $4 million USD.
An unknown address purchased the CryptoPunk and later changed their OpenSea name to TheReal4156. It’s possible that this user is also attempting to get into the NFT selling business right now.
