DC Comics and Fortnite Crossover Reveal The Batman Who Laughs Skin

Fortnite is teaming up with DC Comics once more to create a new playable skin based on one of DC’s most sinister characters in recent memory: The Batman Who Laughs. Over the years, Epic Game’s massively multiplayer battle royale sandbox has seen several appearances from DC’s iconic pantheon of heroes and villains, and Batman is set to engage in a deadly game of Fortnite for the second time in the pages of the upcoming Batman/Fortnite: Foundation crossover comic.

Throughout Batman’s nearly eight decades of publication, there have been several evil versions of Bruce Wayne and his heroic alter-ego, but few have been as twisted and sinister as The Batman Who Laughs. The Batman Who Laughs is the Earth-22 version of Bruce Wayne. He was exposed to the Joker’s mind-alerting Joker Gas after finally breaking his most sacred rule and killing the Clown Prince Of Crime during their final battle, first appearing in the 2017 DC Black Label event Dark Knights: Metal.

This warps the Dark Knight’s mind into a mirror image of his greatest foe, combining the former’s intelligence and superior physical strength with the latter’s sheer insanity and nihilistic worldview. The Batman Who Laughs would go on to conquer his home universe’s Earth before crossing over into the main DC reality, quickly becoming a popular villain among readers and even appearing as an alternate character skin in Mortal Kombat 11. His terror has now spread to Fortnite, just in time for today’s DC Fandome livestream event.

According to GameSpot, Fortnite will give players a free playable skin of The Batman Who Laughs if they buy Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1 when it hits newsstands and digital comic markets in October 26. This skin, as well as a scythe-like melee weapon and the bat wing-style Robin’s Perch back bling, will be available for purchase in the Fortnite Item Shop that day.

As previously stated, the announcement of Fortnite’s latest DC guest character skin coincides with today’s livestream of the DC Fandome event, a four-hour celebration of all things DC that promises a closer look at two up-and-coming DC video games: WB Montreal’s Gotham Knights and Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

Even in the days leading up to the big event, the developers behind these exciting titles have been dropping hints and tidbits about what fans can expect to see, including the first official Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League screenshot. In addition, to promote Gotham Knights’ appearance at DC Fandome, certain fans have been receiving a special gift package that includes a collectible mask modeled after the sinister Court Of Owls and a newspaper chronicling Bruce Wayne’s death.

The Batman Who Laughs has been teased as a major antagonist in the upcoming Batman/Fortnite: Foundation, so it only makes sense for Fortnite to include him as a playable skin to coincide with the event. When the Batman Who Laughs skin and cosmetic items are released alongside Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1 on October 26, players will be able to strike fear and terror as this twisted version of the Dark Knight.
