Like TV series, some games, such as “Diablo IV,” also hype up the excitement by introducing new seasons now and then. A new fifth season has recently been unveiled for “Diablo IV,” following the Season of the Malignant (Season 1), Season of the Blood (Season 2), Season of the Construct (Season 3), and Season of Loot Reborn (Season 4).

For this fifth season, probably the biggest news is how it might allow gamers to wield the most iconic weapon in “World of Warcraft,” also from Blizzard Entertainment. Here’s the story.

‘Diablo IV’ Season 5 launches

Last June 25th, the fifth season’s PTR (Public Test Realm) was opened and will close this Tuesday, July 2nd, after a one-week run.

The PTR has a lot of things to offer. For one, it includes a brand-new Eternal Quest, The Eyes of the Enemy, and a brand-new wave-based event called “Infernal Hordes,” lasting 90 seconds each.

As soon as you manage to defeat all waves within the time limit, you’ll then advance to the Well of Hatred and fight the Fell Council. Upon slaying the Council, you can spend the Burning Aether you gathered in this mode on Spoils of Hell. The four categories lootable are Spoils of Equipment, Materials, Gold, and Great Equipment, with the last guaranteeing you an item with greater affix.

Beyond this, another great thing about “Diablo IV” Season 5 is the possibility for you to wield an iconic weapon from “World of Warcraft.” Read on for the details.

Iconic weapon from ‘WoW’

As the new PTR opens, people at Wowhead, the biggest “World of Warcraft” information site, noticed something that will surely make you leave what you’re doing and start playing the game. They discovered new weapon models with Season 5’s files that resemble the iconic weapons from the other popular fantasy universe of Blizzard Entertainment.

These models are for the weapon known as Frostmourne, the legendary runeblade that Arthas Menethil, the evil Lich King in “Warcraft III” and “WoW,” wields. Two models of this weapon are found in the “Diablo IV” PTR.

However, the purpose of these weapons is still unclear, especially since Wowhead found Frostmourne not among the new Unique items in Season 5 based on their data mining.

The Frostmourne appearing as a weapon gamers can wield in “Diablo IV” isn’t the first crossover between the two fantasy universes of Blizzard. In the past, the developer has offered “Diablo”-themed mounts in “WoW.”

Also, last year, in celebration of the launch of “Diablo IV,” “World of Warcraft” conducted a Treasure Goblin event allowing players to earn various “Diablo”-themed cosmetics.

If you play the game series fervently, you can remember that in “Diablo III,” you were able to wield another “WoW” weapon, the Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.

Whether Frostmourne can be used in the full version of “Diablo IV” Season 5 or planned for the future is still unknown.

How To Install The PTR

You have until July 2nd to enjoy the “Diablo IV” Season 5 PTR. You can install it by launching the Blizzard Battle.net app. Afterward, choose “Diablo IV” from the list of games. Above the Play button, you’ll find a selector which you’ll need to set to PTR. Doing so installs the PTR, boots up the game, and creates a new test character to begin.
