Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch Productions may be coming to PC soon since Sony appears to have removed the “Only on PlayStation” logo from the game’s box cover. When it initially came out on PS4, 2020’s samurai adventure set in feudal Japan captivated players. It has recently reawakened interest due to its free multiplayer feature, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which was released just a few months later.
Sony’s Ghost of Tsushima has been a runaway success, with over 6.5 million units sold as of March 2021. The game follows Jin Sakai, a warrior on a mission to preserve Tsushima Island. Ghost of Tsushima is a game set during the first Mongol invasion of Japan that excels in both gameplay and visuals.
Many gamers feel Ghost of Tsushima was “cheated” out of the Game of the Year Award at 2020 The Game Awards, which went to Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 instead. Despite losing out on this award, Ghost of Tsushima is still considered as one of the finest PS4 exclusives, with fans even hosting their own online event to celebrate the game’s first anniversary.
While Sucker Punch has been mum about the prospect of a new game in the series, Ghost of Tsushima is looking increasingly likely to come to PC. Death Stranding by Kojima Productions and Days Gone by Bend Studio are two recent PlayStation console exclusives that have been released on PC.
Horizon Zero Dawn by Guerrilla Games was also released on PC in 2020; however, the port leaves much to be desired. The “Only on PlayStation” logo was removed from these titles’ box art, which is exactly what happened with Ghost of Tsushima.
According to VGC, merchants such as Amazon and even PlayStation are displaying fresh box art, this time without the logo. While this might indicate that Ghost of Tsushima will no longer be “Only on PlayStation,” other Reddit members appear to disagree.
As word of the revised box art spread on Reddit, one player appeared to refute the idea by posting a photo of a real copy of the game. The text shows part of the new branding, but the box still says “Only on PlayStation” (via DualShockers).
While this might indicate that the game isn’t coming to PC anytime soon, it’s still possible that the new box art will hint at that conclusion. It’s worth mentioning that a handful of PlayStation console exclusives, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, haven’t included the “Only on PlayStation” logo. This might indicate that a PS5 version of Ghost of Tsushima is on the way.
Ghost of Tsushima is still a relatively recent title for Sony, having been released only a year ago. If the game is coming to PC, Sony may want to wait a bit longer to ensure that sales of the PS4 edition remain stable.
Days Gone was released on PC in May 2021, almost two years after it was released on consoles. Horizon Zero Dawn, however, was released on PC three years after being a PS4 console exclusivity. On the other hand, death Stranding by Kojima Productions was released on PC less than a year after its PS4 debut. It’s unclear whether Ghost of Tsushima will be released on PC, but the more gamers that can experience this wonderful universe, the better!
