Google wants its workforce to start going back to the office as the pandemic continues to wind down globally.

According to the internal memo (via The Verge) the company sent to the workers, those currently working remotely and living near the office are encouraged to opt for a hybrid work setup. The message also reminds employees who are not remotely working about the need to report to the office three times a week, adding failure to do it can affect their performance review ratings.

Despite the announcement, Google stressed that the company would still allow remote work arrangements. However, it will now be limited, the company added, saying the acceptance of such a request is “by exception only.”

Here is a part of the email sent to the Google workforce:

“We know that a number of people moved to fully remote work for many good reasons, as we all adjusted to the pandemic. For those who are remote and who live near a Google office, we hope you’ll consider switching to a hybrid work schedule. Our offices are where you’ll be most connected to Google’s community. Going forward, we’ll consider new remote work requests by exception only.”
