As you play “Elden Ring,” you will encounter General Radahn, one of the game’s toughest bosses.
Starscourge Radahn is a Legend Boss in this game. He is regarded as one of the mightiest demigods who ever lived, having fought Malenia the Severed to a standstill as the war of the Shattering happened.
Don’t worry because defeating Radahn is not a requisite before you can advance to “Elden Ring’s” main storyline. He is an optional boss. But, if you want to enter Leyndell, Royal Capital, you must defeat Radahn. This guide shall teach you how to beat General Radahn easily.
3 Phases To Beat Radahn
To summarize, the fight against Radahn has three phases:
- The archery battle
- The horseback fight
- The magical horseback fight
Phase 1: The Archery Battle
You might notice that you are doing this phase repeatedly right here. Yes, it is frustrating, but it will be the easiest part once you have learned the ropes.
There are two types of shots here: crushing barrages and purple lasers.
At the beginning of this phase, Starscourge Radahn will consistently ping you with purple lasers. The best way to actually dodge them is to roll into them (yes) and briefly exploit your invincibility.
During this phase, you will also have the chance to summon several NPCs while dodging the boss’ attacks. Some of those you can call upon include Iron Fist Alexander, Okina, Patches, Blaidd, and Lionel the Lionhearted, among others.
Now back to the battle. After you have rolled under a laser arrow, make a start by interacting with the summon signs before you as you stand behind the debris ahead of you to block another arrow attack from Radahn if he is to make another one.
Afterward, make a beeline halfway to the summon sign on your right side. Wait a while here, taking advantage of your ability to duck the lasers easily and letting your allies come closer to your enemy before making the next summon.
Once your summons reach the halfway mark up the hill to your opponent, his attacks will become crushing barrages. Use the summon sign before you ride your horse as soon as this occurs. Sprint toward the left, grab the last two remaining summons and zigzag toward the right to avoid more hits from Radahn.
There are times when he switches back to purple lasers. If he does, simply press the left stick on your controller to dismount quickly and roll out of the way. Once your summons reach Radahn, he will give up his bow, and the second phase commences.
Phase 2: The Horseback Fight
Remember this general strategy in this phase: let your summons take all the aggro, obtain the occasional hit when it is perfectly safe to do so, and resummon allies who die. You’ll thank us.
In this phase, Starscourge Radahn can and will murder you in just one hit or combo before you even know it. Thus, getting anywhere near him at any given time won’t make any sense. Don’t be greedy. Control. Because if you get greedy, you will get killed. Furthermore, if you miss your hit, you can die. Make every second count.
- Should you wish to melee, you can, but you must wait until one of his combos comes to an end. Afterward, ride him, hit him just once, and ride back out.
- Otherwise, if you wish to utilize magic or range, keep a decent distance and break your lock before you run away whenever he gazes his attention at you. It is not cowardice because it only takes one hit before he can defeat you.
Sure, you can let your buddies take the brunt of the damages. But, there are still two attacks you must avoid. You can use your horse’s timed sprint left or right to dodge the five magic orbs that aim at you.
If you see Radahn slamming the ground, leaving a fearsome electric shockwave, simply double-jump over.
In this phase, he will also make an attack that hits everything in a vast area for a less significant amount of damage. The best way to deal with this is to keep your distance.
The last phase commences as soon as General Radahn’s health is cut in half.
Phase 3: The Magical Horseback Fight
If you succeed in decreasing Starscourge’s Radahn health, you can enjoy the fruits of your hard work. But things do not end here. He will do everything to stand a chance still. He will fly off in the air before crashing back to the ground with a solid flaming attack.
You can avoid this. To do so, alight your horse and run away from the center of the field, reviving any dead summons of yours.
But if you think it will be easier at this point since Radahn’s health has waned, think again. This phase is considered the most frustrating because you can literally get killed instantly without warning.
Radahn’s attacks will be the same, but with one major exception that you shouldn’t ignore. This is a brand-new move wherein he summons four enormous meteors above him. They are almost impossible to duck, can bait you out of hiding, and can effortlessly kill you. Sure, you can use your shield, but the damage can still overwhelm you to the point your enemy can kill you instantly.
Believe it or not, the trick here is to show fear. If you consistently revive your defeated summons and keep your distance as much as possible, you can slowly whittle Radahn down by letting him do most of the work. Yes, it’s giving him the taste of his own medicine.
Once you see his meteors rise, hide behind the dunes, using their elevation as your shield.
Just keep resummoning your buddies, and they can defeat Radahn for you. Never try to brute force in this fight, as this can disadvantage you.
Instead, keep hiding, keep cowering, and keep whimpering in the corner. This is the safest defense you can use in this challenging phase.
Sometimes, he may perform his flying fire attack once more. To dodge this, run away from the middle of the battlefield.
Once you have beaten Radahn, you can enjoy the rewards. There you go. If you liked this article, feel free to share this around.
