Otherwise known as Yagate Kimi ni Naru, Bloom Into You is the anime adaptation of the romance yuri manga series with the same name. Nio Nakatani wrote and illustrated the manga series, which was initially published in Dengeki Daioh, a monthly manga magazine. Eventually, the manga was licensed for an official English release in North America, with the first volume being published in 2017.
Several months after that, Troyca, a Japanese anime studio, picked up the manga series to be adapted into an anime TV series. By 2018, the first season of Bloom Into You was premiered. As expected, the TV series was extremely well-received by old and new fans alike, especially those who were already fans of the original source material.
Since the first season’s release, fans have been waiting for an announcement regarding the second installment. That’s why in this article, we’ll talk about everything we know about Bloom Into You Season 2 along with what we are hoping to see.
What Is Bloom Into You About?
Bloom Into You follows the story of Yuu Koito, a freshman high school student, who has always loved shoujo mangas. Because of her love for this genre, she has been patiently waiting for the day when she gets a love confession from a boy, as she hopes to experience the same fluttering and heart-wrenching feeling described in the manga she reads.
However, when one of her classmates from junior high decides to confess to her, Yuu didn’t feel anything except a disappointing hollowness. Because of this event, Yuu believes that she’s not capable of feeling and understanding love first-hand except only as a concept.

Going into high school, Yuu is still confused about what she feels for the boy who confessed to her and how to respond to him. One day, she stumbles upon the beautiful student council president, Touko Nanami, and witnesses as she turns down a suitor in a very mature manner.
Yuu becomes inspired by this and approaches Touko to try and ask for help. However, when she does approach her, Touko catches her by surprise by confessing her feelings for Yuu. This came as a massive shock to Yuu, but eventually, she begins to fall fast and hard for Touko and begins to realize that perhaps this was the heartwarming experience she was looking forward to her entire life.
What We Want to See in Season 2
Season 1 ended with the major characters going through personal struggles, specifically Touko, Yuu, and Sayaka. As such, there are several things we hope to see in Season 2 that will resolve everything left unanswered in Season 1.
Touko Needs to Accept Who She Truly Is
It was revealed in the first season that Touko had an older sister named Mio, who passed away about seven years before. Since then, Touko made it her life’s mission to replace her deceased sister, changing everything about herself to mimick who Mio was. Touko’s plan goes smoothly for a while, but one day, one of Mio’s former classmates reveals that Mio wasn’t all that perfect. This leads Touko to question not only her sister’s identity but her own.

On the outside, Touko does a fantastic job at embodying her deceased sister. On the inside, however, she continues to struggle with who she is. When Yuu questions Touko’s choice to become just like Mio, Touko reacts violently. So, for the second installment, we hope to see Touko become more true to herself and to those around her.
If she learns to accept herself, Touko will consequently grow more as a character and better process the death of Mio, rather than living her entire life in her sister’s shadow.
Yuu Needs to Come To Terms With Her Sexuality
Touko isn’t the only character who has personal struggles accepting and becoming her authentic self. Yuu also needs to come to terms with who she is. During the first season of Bloom Into You, we see that Yuu is having trouble reciprocating the affections shown to her by Touko. Eventually, Yuu allows Touko to embrace her more often, saying that while she doesn’t necessarily hate the feeling, she’s still unsure what she actually thinks about this kind of contact with her.
On one hand, Yuu seems to believe that she has difficulty generating any romantic feelings toward other people. However, during the Sports Day episode, Yuu seemed to be very attracted to Touko while she ran the race. Since then, Yuu became more open to the other’s affections.
For Season 2, we want to see Yuu learn to accept her sexuality, whatever it may be. Bloom Into You does a fantastic job at showcasing how confusing it can be for teenagers to navigate their own feelings, but we hope that by Season 2, everything will be made much clearer for Yuu and other characters.

Sayaka Needs to Confess
With all that being said, where does Sayaka fit into this narrative? We know that Sayaka struggles with the fact that she likes girls and is attracted to them, particularly Touko. However, she’s scared because she was dumped in middle school and was told that her sexuality is more of just a “phase” than anything else.
Because of this, Sayaka is too scared to confess to Touko because she doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. Still, whether or not Touko and Yuu end up together at the end of the series, we still hope that Sayaka will find the strength to confess her feelings to Touko. This is a vital step for Sayaka to slowly but surely overcome her fear of rejection.
When Will Season 2 Be Released?
Now that we’ve listed down our expectations for the second installment, the question remains: when will Season 2 premiere? Bloom Into You Season 1 ran for 13 episodes from October 2018 through December 2018, yet until today, there’s still no news about a second season.
That said, there’s no need to worry just yet—it’s completely normal for anime shows to take years before it gets renewed. As such, there’s still a big chance that Troyca will announce Season 2 down the line.
Conclusion
At this point in time, fans of Bloom Into You will have to practice patience as much as they can. There’s no guarantee when Season 2 will be announced, but given that there’s still a lot of source material left to work with, we have high hopes.
