“Hogwarts Legacy” has finally launched. As for the reviews of the experts, there are mixed thoughts about it. Netizens are loving the game.

Bloomberg: ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is a triumph

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier was one of those who wrote reviews about the newly-launched game.

“Thanks to this meticulous formulation of Harry Potter’s environment, Hogwarts Legacy is primed to be one of the year’s biggest games,” Shreier wrote. “It has topped sales charts and broken streaming records on Twitch.”

He also cited big differences between the literature’s film and game adaptations. While the film franchise clumsily depicted minorities, there is inclusivity in the game.

“The tool to design a character has been praised for its realistic depiction of Black hairstyles, and more people of color talk in the first few hours of Hogwarts Legacy than in all of the Harry Potter films combined,” the Bloomberg review added.

However, despite the good things about “Hogwarts Legacy,” Schreier said there are “some annoyances.”

“Combat can be monotonous, there are some graphical glitches, and the dialogue can get repetitive — every time you pass one of the castle’s fast-travel points, known as the Floo Network, a ghost pops up and repeats the same irritating line,” he wrote.

Nevertheless, he said “Hogwarts Legacy” is a triumph.

Engadget: ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is alive with magic

There is also another review that sang praises to “Hogwarts Legacy.” Engadget’s Jessica Conditt said “Hogwarts Legacy” is the Harry Potter game she has been dreaming of since she was a teenager, recalling her memories with the novel version.

Conditt reviewed, “Hogwarts Legacy is alive with magic. It’s a massive and gorgeous open-world RPG that extends far beyond the walls of the wizarding school, with mysteries, danger and cute creatures packed into every corner. Casting spells quickly becomes second nature in this environment and when it comes to puzzles, my magical instincts are often correct and richly rewarded.”

She also cited how the game’s combat involves intricate spellwork and lightning-quick responses, adding that this combination consistently results in a seamless, satisfying flow.

She said, “I feel powerful while playing Hogwarts Legacy. I feel like a witch — and that’s all I’ve ever really wanted.”

WIRED: There is no magic

Several people are happy with how “Hogwarts Legacy” turned out. However, Jaina Grey from WIRED said something was missing.

After recalling her fond memories of the “Harry Potter” novel, she could not help but compare it with the game.

“The longer I spent in this version of Hogwarts, the more I could feel a tangible absence. There’s definitely something missing. I thought maybe it was the lackluster art direction, the one-dimensional characters that feel like store-brand versions of the ones we know and love, or even the conspicuous lack of the iconic John Williams score. But there’s a bigger absence here,” she said.

What netizens are saying

Meanwhile, netizens on social media love the game.

Twitter netizen @NasruTyary said he enjoys every bit of it, saying, “Thank you guys for an amazing game!!! (emojis) really enjoying every bit of it”

“I have took 4 days break from work and caved in on Hogwarts Legacy,” wrote @KnownIsFree.

“Hogwarts Legacy” is an action role-playing game developed by Utah-based Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under its Portkey Games label. The game is set in the Wizard World, based on the “Harry Potter” novels, but during the 1800s.
