Twitter Support announced this in a tweet alongside the news that it is launching a “new” and “improved” version of TweetDeck with various new features. 

This move is part of the recent policy changes since billionaire Elon Musk bought Twitter last year, along with layoffs and ramping up the platform’s paid-for subscriptions in the hopes that it will bring more profit to it. 

Verified users on Twitter are those who have paid to get the blue check mark, though Musk has granted this blue check mark to some users, and others keep it from the previous administration. 

Getting verified costs $11 per month in the United States, around $14 in the United Kingdom, and around $13 in Australia. 

TweetDeck is capable of showing messages in columns. Its search and posting functions work differently than Twitter.

But, even before this change becomes effective, many current TweetDeck users could not see posts last weekend.

As a result, Stonegate Investment Group now owns 1,439,378 Cisco shares, making it their 10th biggest holding, representing around 2.8 percent of their portfolio. These holdings’ market value is estimated to be approximately $75,243,000.

The company reported earnings per share of $1 for the quarter, beating the market’s expectations by $0.03. Stop using weak cryptographic algorithms, Cisco urges

Meanwhile, in other Cisco news, the company is urging organizations to stop using weak cryptographic algorithms with Open Shortest Path First or OSPF. To implement this, the technology company is making it more difficult for organizations to utilize cryptographic algorithms when setting up OSPF packets authentication for specific Catalyst Edge Platforms and Integrated Service Routers. 

Moreover, according to Cisco’s Field Notice, newer versions of its IOS XE software no longer support such algorithms by default, particularly DES, 3DES, and MD5 algorithms. 

Specifically, these algorithms are not the default options anymore for the OSPFv3 protocol, which utilizes the IPsec secure socket API to incorporate authentication to OSPFv3 packets that distribute routing data. 

“In order to continue to use such weak cryptographic encryption algorithms, explicit configuration is required. Otherwise, OSPF neighborship will fail to establish and cause service disruption as a result,” Cisco’s Field Notice stated.

Early morning last Sunday, Tesla unveiled the official figures for its sales and production for the second quarter of this year. Beyond the expectations of others, the statistics are record-breaking, even beating Wall Street estimates, as news outlets point out.

Following this, Tesla shares also spiked nearly seven percent – with companies like Apple and AstraZeneca – reportedly driven partly by stronger-than-expected second-quarter deliveries and production numbers.

Record-breaking

Tesla’s official Twitter account revealed that during this year’s second quarter, it produced nearly 480,000 vehicles and delivered more than 466,000. 

Looking closely at the second-quarter results, they show that Tesla produced 19,489 Model S and Model X during the last quarter. Also, around 19,225 units of these flagship cars were delivered to customers in Q2. Comparing the figures during the first quarter, only 10,695 vehicle units were delivered then. 

Also, a considerable portion of Tesla’s production and deliveries during the second quarter comprised the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y crossover. According to the company’s official press release, it produced 460,211 of these mainstream vehicles in Q2, with 446,915 of these cars delivered to customers last quarter.

What experts think 

The figures are high and record-breaking. For Tesla fans, this is a day of celebration. However, when experts are asked, they want to look at them as just the tip of the iceberg. 

Al Root of financial and investment news Barron’s said the figures beat Wall Street’s estimates, but there is more to it than meets the eye. Barron’s is one of the leading sources of financial news. It also provides in-depth analysis and commentary on stocks, investments, and market performance. 

“Tesla delivered 466,140 vehicles in the second quarter. That’s a record, and better than what Wall Street had expected,” Root wrote. “Investors love a strong ‘beat,’ but it might not be enough to keep the stock moving higher, considering the starting point.”

Liam Denning, an opinion columnist on Bloomberg covering energy and commodities, and also a former investment banker, wrote a piece titled, “Tesla Sales Surge, But at What Cost?”

Denning recognized that these figures may have reached what they are today because of the price cuts, but he wanted to pay attention to what could happen in the future.

“Price cuts work — but only up to a point… The struggle between growth and margins, which defined the first half of 2023, has yet to be resolved,” he wrote.

The Bloomberg columnist added that what people wouldn’t know until July 19th is whether the products Tesla offered to entice buyers, including price cuts, inflicted further damage on profits. He recalled the time when Tesla reported its first-quarter results, which unnerved investors enough to wipe $56 billion, or around 10 percent, from its market cap the following day.

“While Tesla’s margins fell from a relatively high level, the notion that Tesla might suffer the oldest of Detroit’s afflictions — taking a hit on profits to move product — was hard to reconcile with the company’s more cutting-edge narratives,” Denning pointed out.

“When it comes to [two-nanometer] technology, we are focusing our efforts on Rapidus and investing a great deal of resources to this project, even sacrificing some capacity that we could have used in other research,” Morimoto told Bloomberg News. “We want Rapidus to succeed. We want it to contribute to a stable supply of the chips we and the world need.”

Rapidus is a semiconductor manufacturer with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Backed and invested in by some of Japan’s most prominent electronics firms – Denso, Kioxia, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, NEC Corporation, the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, SoftBank, Sony, and Toyota – Rapidus is bound to turn IBM’s two-nanometer chip design into silicon ready for production and aims to manufacture such chips at a large scale in the latter half of this decade. Presently, the most advanced semiconductors are built at a larger three-nanometer mode. 

The semiconductor manufacturer also has the support of the government and is led by the veterans of the industry’s supply chain. 

The task ahead is creating a world-class chipmaking foundry, making silicon for outside customers, and catching up with the leading Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) in a few years. 

Rapidus is also working now with IBM and IMEC, a microelectronics research hub based in Belgium. 

Engineers from the manufacturer have reportedly already been dispatched to IBM’s Albany NanoTech Complex to design two-nanometer mass production lines while its factory is being constructed in Hokkaido. The Japanese firm will also invest around $35 billion in this project, coming at par with the yearly outlay of TSMC and Samsung.

A credible hardware leaker revealed the first pictures of Intel’s next-gen Xeon CPUs on Saturday. However, nothing is official yet from Intel. Read on for the news story. 

Intel currently evaluating 2 IHS designs?

Interpreting what the leaker, @momomo_us, has shared on Twitter, Intel is seemingly now evaluating two IHS (integrated heat spreader) designs for its LGA-4170 processors. One of them appears to share the same design approach as AMD AM5 CPUs referred to as “Raphael” or Ryzen 7000 series. 

The LGA-4710 socket those processors were designed for differs from LGA-7529, though LGA-7529 is also for Granite Rapids, except for the AP version. Furthermore, this more sizable socket will also support CPUs codenamed “Sierra Forest,” Intel’s future Efficient-core implementation for its Xeon platform. 

On the other hand, recent news said the smaller LGA-4710 could eventually end up with with “consumer/workstation” series pertained to a Xeon WS, but there is no official confirmation yet of these plans. 

Replying to @momomo_us’ leak, another leaker, @yuuki_ans, stated that such a socket is for a platform referred to as “Beechnut City.” Supporting GNR-SP CPUs, Beechnut City is a dual-socket platform for Granite Rapids, which are Intel’s upcoming data-center processors based on the Granite Rapids-SP architecture. 

@yuuki_ans shared a slide, which news media said is from Intel, showing that the platform would support up to 350W TDP SKUs and up to eight-channel DDR5 memory up to 6400 MT/s. Presently, it is being used as a “main validation vehicle,” introducing some significant changes compared to the Eagle Stream platform shown in green color. 

Before the launch of Granite Rapids this 2024, Intel is said to deploy a 5th Gen Xeon platform, “Emerald Rapids.” This will support the same platform as what the current 4th Gen Xeon Sapphire Rapids supports.

In other news about Intel, the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the Cambridge Open Zettascale Lab collaborated with Intel and Dell Technologies to build what they said to be the “digital twin” of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion power plant. STEP is a spherical tokamak fusion plant concept proposed by UKAEA and funded by United Kingdom’s government.

UKAEA will use Cambridge Open Zettascale Lab’s supercomputer, which is built on Intel’s technologies, including 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, distributed asynchronous object storage (DAOS), and oneAPI tools to streamline the development and delivery of fusion energy to the grid by 2040s.

The Last of Us

The lesson from The Last of Us is letting the game speak for itself. There is nothing too flashy in The Last of Us font. It’s standard solid capitals, perhaps a little disjointed in its spacing. But the real mark of The Last of Us is its little detail. Something is infringing on the last line of lettering. It almost looks like germs in a petri dish. Perhaps like a fungus, like the one taking over the world in the game. Of all the easy graphic design projects one might undertake, this is one lesson to take forward: simplicity with a subtle change. It evokes the same dread that the game does.

Fallout: New Vegas

The Fallout franchise, no matter where you start, has always had the same title card. Despite going through three developers, the distinctive “Fallout” across a metal plate like a discarded license plate has always stayed the same, going back to the first point and click Fallout of 1997. Unlike The Last of Us, Fallout doesn’t imagine that nature has reclaimed the world, but instead that the only things to survive the nuclear, ahem, fallout, are the unnatural metal and concrete. That is clear in its title card that is shiny and yet rusted, its letters stamped into it, and with its signature lightning bolt going through the O.

Additionally, each take on the franchise adds its spin. Our favorite is Fallout: New Vegas, which, as you can guess, is set in a rebuilt Las Vegas. So, the typical Fallout font is spelled out in retro bulb lights. No neon here. This isn’t Cyberpunk 2077.

Doom

Doom is a franchise that stands out from the many first-person shooters on the market. In cover art that sees your player overrun with monsters, barely scraping an escape, the word “Doom” is the most memorable aspect. Later releases, like the 2016 version, have simplified the Doom logo, but our favorite is the original, which sees the letters split in half. The upper half is mechanical, all steel and wires, whereas the bottom is organic, all concrete and cracks. This shows the duality of the creatures you face in Hell, which is depicted as both depending on your level. For example, the Cyberdemon is a minotaur mixing the two with a cannon for an arm and a metal leg.

The lettering has gone through a few iterations, some with fire, some reduced to simple white lettering, but it always retains its distinctive shape, which could depict teeth or mountains, depending on how you see it. The lesson is that when you have a recognizable element, don’t change it.

Stardew Valley

Stepping away from the high adrenaline of Doom to the complete opposite, the epitome of cozy games: Stardew Valley.

Arguably, Stardew Valley’s title screen is its most recognizable asset. Its first photo on mobile and game shops is the title, depicting rolling hills and starry skies and the name, Stardew Valley, spelled out in wood.
