No Word Yet From Twitter On The Outage With Some Of Its Third-Party Apps

Some third-party Twitter apps and clients like Tweetbot and Twitterific seem to be experiencing an outage currently, and the cause is still unclear. Developers reportedly have not received any communication yet from Twitter about whether these issues are caused by a bug or something else, according to a Mastodon post from one of Tweetbot’s creators, Paul Haddad.

“I’m hoping that whatever is going on at Twitter is just some automated spam protection bot that is incorrectly suspending proper apps, or something similar,” Haddad posted. “Unfortunately I don’t have many contacts at Twitter anymore so doubt I’ll get any kind of definitive answer soon.”

There has been speculation from the users of the social media platform and some news outlets that this is a move from the company to shut down third-party clients altogether. Nevertheless, the outage may not be universal. Some apps, such as Albatross and Fenix 2, appear to be working so far, but there have been reports from some users about problems with Fenix. The first-party Twitter app is also still functional.

“Tweetbot and other clients are experiencing problems logging in to Twitter. We’ve reached out to Twitter for more details, but haven’t heard back,” said Tweetbot by Tapbots. “We’re hoping this is just a temporary glitch and will let you know more as soon as we know more.”

Also, Twitterific tweeted, “We’re aware that Twitterrific is having problems communicating with Twitter. We don’t yet know what the root cause is, but we’re trying to find out. Please stay tuned and apologies.”

Third-party apps depend on the API of Twitter to get data from the service, a point that has been contentious in the past as the company went through a period where it neglected tools for external developers. That seemed to be turning around prior to Elon Musk buying the company, though where he stands on alternative Twitter apps is not vivid; he does not appear to have said much about them, either positive or negative. 

Furthermore, it is difficult to tell whether the third-party client outage is because of the API. As of press time, there haven’t been any tweets about the apparent glitches, either from Twitter’s official account, the account of Twitter Support, or Elon Musk. Also, Twitter does not have a communications department that could directly be asked about the issue. The only way is to keep an eye out for any developments.

“Uh oh. @tweetbot is unable to request any tokens from @Twitter. Either something’s down or something been done. Could this be the end? Of both for me if it is,” said @rajdeut on Twitter. 

@tgfletch also tweeted, “API seems to be down in third party apps like Tweetbot. Assuming the failure is intentional, that might finally be the reason to pull the plug.”

‘Marvel Snap’ PvP Mode Drops At The End Of January 2023

Beginning this January 31st, keen players of “Marvel Snap” will be able to challenge their friends in battle as Second Dinner and Nuverse launch the next game update. 

Friend PvP, or Player vs. Player, has been among the most requested “Marve Snap” features since this card game launched mid-2022. However, the launch of this feature has been delayed since the end of 2022, as the developers initially promised it. 

But the long wait is finally over, as PvP mode for “Marvel Snap” is bound to happen starting January 31st. However, Second Dinner says that date could slip again should any last-minute issues arise. But for now, the latest update will launch this month’s end. 

Aside from introducing the capability to battle with friends, it will also introduce Series Drop, a new and ongoing feature that lets players gain older, rarer cards more easily. 

The official website of Second Dinner said, “When cards drop Series, they become 10x more common in Collector’s Reserves, and much cheaper in the Token Shop.”

These Series Drops will land each month, providing avid players with opportunities to build better card decks. 

The first drops include these cards moving from Series 5 to Series 4:

  • Valkyrie
  • Black Panther
  • Super-Skrull
  • Shuri
  • Bast

It will likewise include these drops from Series 4 to Series 3:

  • Luke Cage
  • She-Hulk
  • Absorbing Man
  • Titania

The only cards that will not get Series Drops are Galactus and Thanos, the two major “big bads” of the Marvel Universe. 

“They’re just too dang epic,” Second Dinner said.

Players who enjoy the collecting aspect of “Marvel Snap” won’t have too much to worry about these upcoming drops, as the developer has also promised cards obtained early in their life cycle will receive a ‘First Edition Badge,” viewable when inspected. This allows players to know the card is rare and that it was acquired during its initial release.

According to the app descriptions, Apple noted that being preview versions of these apps, “not all features may work as expected.” The company also provided a warning saying that installing any of these apps will prevent iTunes for Windows from opening. As a result, other content types like podcasts and audiobooks will not be accessible until Apple releases a compatible version of iTunes or the user uninstalls those preview apps. 

All three of those new Apple apps require Windows 11 version 22621.0 or higher.

‘Terrifying’ Microsoft AI can ‘clone’ your voice in three seconds

This AI can then be used to turn any written text into speech, making it possible for somebody to put words in your mouth by simply using this tool. 

Furthermore, according to media reports such as from Gizmodo, this Microsoft AI is even designed to recreate the speaker’s “emotional range” and pacing, making it a hyper-accurate form of mimicry.

However, this Microsoft AI tool is not yet available to the general public. The company said it is a “neural codec language model” trained on 60,000 hours of English language speech from Meta, the company that owns Microsoft.
