Capcom has launched a new website to commemorate Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary as well as Halloween. “Happy Biohazard 25th Halloween,” a banner reads across the left side of the page, above an image of a Halloween version of Resident Evil Village’s Book of Shadows.
On the right side, there are nine slots for announcements that will take place throughout October, two of which have already been revealed. Capcom provides more information about the contest on the official Resident Evil portal site. The promotion is divided into three sections: cosplay, memories, and illustrations, with Capcom encouraging fans to show off their Resident Evil fandom.
The grand prize is a Sony 4K OLED TV for a lucky contestant who completes all three courses, with other prizes including an Oculus Quest 2, a Republic of Gamers Delta S headset, a “Play in Resident Evil Village” parka, and some Wolf Corps patches. Resident Evil Village’s Lords, Lady Dimitrescu, Heisenberg, Salvatore Moreau, and Donna Beneviento are all depicted as cute puppets on the parka.
Aside from the contest, the big draw here is what other announcements Capcom has planned for the rest of October. Microids, a French video game publisher, recently announced that the first game in the Joe and Mac series will be remade and released on consoles and PC in 2022 as Joe and Mac: Caveman Ninja. Joe and Mac is an arcade platformer in which the two titular cavemen must navigate the perils of prehistoric times.
The game was originally developed by Data East and released as an arcade game in Japan in the early 1990s, with players able to play solo or in co-op. Mr. Nutz Studio, which worked on games like Toki and Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All, will create the remake for Joe and Mac.
According to Microids’ post, the Joe and Mac remake will have more than just improved graphics; it will also include several new game features, such as an original adventure mode with all-new levels.
Both Stéphane Longeard, CEO of Microids, and Tosuke Matsuoka, Data East License Producer from G-MODE Corporation, expressed their excitement for the upcoming remake in the post. They also state that their companies have “complete faith” in Mr. Nutz Studio to bring Joe and Mac to life. This, according to the post, is part of Microids’ business strategy of developing video games based on Japanese licenses, such as the previously announced Goldorak.
Unfortunately, the post did not reveal any additional details about the upcoming remake, but it does state that more information will be released soon. For the time being, fans of Joe and Mac will have to wait for more information from Microids.

The age of the internet forum has been dwindling for some time, but certain communities have thrived despite this. ResetEra, an online forum focused on gaming discussions and communities built to serve as a “bonfire at the crossroads of the gaming industry,” is one such example.
While ResetEra has become less of an industry gathering place since its inception in 2017, its importance in the online gaming discourse has only grown. Needless to say, the ResetEra community was shocked to learn that the site had been sold on Thursday morning.
MOBA Network, a Swedish organization that owns a portfolio of esports websites, confirmed the acquisition of ResetEra for $4.55 million in cash in a press release. MOBA Network describes ResetEra as a “strong, global community brand,” and the community’s core values and stringent membership requirements are still “essential to MOBA Network.” ResetEra’s current operational team, including its in-house moderation structure, will remain in place.
While there are no immediate changes to ResetEra mentioned in the press release, the company does state that it sees “significant opportunities” to increase the website’s advertising revenue. New ad formats and long-term product development are among the strategies listed, which is likely to make forum members nervous. According to an administrator post on ResetEra, MOBA Network will not collect or sell user data.
ResetEra’s reactions are understandably mixed. Users of ResetEra are perplexed as to why the forum’s profitability, which is said to be $700,000 per year with an impressive EBITDA margin of 80%, was not shared among the site’s moderation structure and how site-owner Cerium could comfortably cash out of what was built to be an independent community. The most vocal opponents of the decision have already called for the creation of a new forum, similar to how ResetEra arose from NeoGAF controversies.

Time will tell whether Cerium is telling the truth or whether MOBA Network keeps its promise of a hands-off approach to ResetEra’s community. Historically, these types of acquisitions have been tumultuous for the existing community base, owing to new ownership’s desire to grow a site in order for it to become more profitable. Regardless of MOBA Network’s intentions, the ResetEra community is unlikely to accept that.

For those who are unaware, Goldner announced in 2014 that he was suffering from Prostate Cancer complications and has been undergoing treatment ever since.
Rich Stoddart, one of Hasbro’s board directors, has since been named interim CEO. Stoddart stated in a public statement to Businesswire that Goldner was the heart and soul of Hasbro. He emphasizes that Goldner was influential in the industry and brought joy and laughter to many children all over the world, and that he will be greatly missed.
Stoddart credits Goldner with helping the company grow into the global entertainment powerhouse that it is today. Goldner oversaw Hasbro’s 2019 acquisition of the entertainment studio “eOne,” whose goal is to bring innovative ideas to the world. Goldner also served on the ViacomCBS Board of Directors as the Chair of the Compensation Committee. His goal at ViacomCBS is to improve care systems for society’s most vulnerable members.
The president of the game company Wizards, which is responsible for Dungeons and Dragons games, also stated on the company’s Twitter account. He shared Goldner’s belief that games can make a positive difference in the world for children and families in it. Cocks believes that those who had the opportunity to work with Goldner will be grateful for his mentorship, wisdom, and unwavering positivity.
Goldner has had a significant impact on the industry, even outside of Hasbro. He was universally respected in the industry as someone who deserved to be respected after more than two decades of influence. His drive for creativity and leadership is something the world desperately needs and will be difficult to replicate. Goldner is remembered fondly by his coworkers, friends, wife, daughter, and other family members.
As promised, Sledgehammer Games has released the first trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies, confirming the return of the Shi No Numa map. Shi No Numa, a swamp location, first appeared in 2009 as a map for Call of Duty: World at War’s Zombies mode.
It has since appeared in several other titles in the series, including Black Ops, Black Ops III, and COD: Mobile. Shi No Numa’s return seemed inevitable given Vanguard’s World War II setting.
The story campaign in Vanguard takes place across multiple theaters of war, giving players a front-row seat to the birth of Special Forces. As the concept of such groups matured during WWII, Sledgehammer focused on identifying these bands of well-trained soldiers and shining a light on their war efforts.
Players can expect to see Vanguard’s depiction of WWII through the eyes of four different Special Forces members, all of whom will be sent to Berlin on orders to investigate a rumored Nazi agenda centered on extending Nazi rule post-Hitler. When the campaign concludes, players will find something else special waiting in the wings.
As promised, the COD: Vanguard Zombies reveal aired today, October 14, giving fans a first look at the multiplayer mode’s return. Interestingly, the two-minute trailer teases fans with news of another exciting return – that of the mode’s classic She No Numa map, which is typically set in Japanese territory. The trailer also teases what players can expect from the Dark Aether storyline, which first made waves in Black Ops Cold War. The reveal can be seen in the video embedded below:
It’s clear that Sledgehammer Games won’t hold back with this year’s Zombies content. However, fans will have to decide whether it ranks high among the franchise’s usual offerings. However, the confirmation of Shi No Numa may pique the interest of more than a few COD fans.
Though Vanguard is Sledgehammer’s second World War II-set title in a row, the story is not considered a sequel. Still, let’s hope the content stands out enough from last year’s COD: WWII.
