Finally, Liverpool fans can celebrate their team winning the English Premier League title. It’s 30 years since Liverpool was victorious in the top-flight of English football and they have never finished in the first place since the start of the Premier League, in 1992.
After they almost saw their team succeed last season, Liverpool supporters had confidence for this campaign. For instance, Finnish fans took to uusi nettikasino (new online casinos in the Finnish language), to bet on the performance of their team. This shows that the club is hugely popular internationally.
It’s been a long wait
For all fans, local and international, the wait for league success has been a long one. Liverpool were the last champions of the top division for the 1989-90 season. This explains why there was so much excitement when Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1, on 25 June and Liverpool were crowned champions as a result.
Celebrations for the team and fans
Given the length of time that fans have had to wait for the club to get its 19th top-flight title, it’s understandable that they partied outside of Liverpool’s home ground, Anfield. This was despite the fact that the police and Liverpool city council had asked people not to gather during the current pandemic.
It was certainly a colorful night of partying for the fans in Liverpool, and the team was partying too. Videos have been posted on social media of manager Jurgen Klopp showing off his dance moves.
After partying, Klopp spoke to Sky Sports the following day. He spoke of not knowing quite what to say and how he was ecstatic.
It seems as though this might be the end of Liverpool’s official celebrations for now as their homecoming with the trophy has had to be put on hold due to the restrictions on mass gatherings. The club has promised that there will be an official parade as soon as it is allowed to happen. In the meantime, Liverpool’s next game is against last season’s champions Manchester City, at the Etihad Stadium.
A strange end to the season
Overall, it’s been a strange end to the season for Liverpool, although it’s also been one that fans will never forget. They were already close to celebrating success when the season was interrupted by the pandemic. Then they had to face concerns about whether the season would ever be completed at all.
Fans breathed a sigh of relief when the Premier League returned. Many of them were able to watch the return on TV or online with all matches being screened live in the UK, by a selection of providers.
The first game back for Liverpool was not as impressive as it might have been. The local derby against Everton lacked excitement. However, the players were back on top form in the game against Crystal Palace which the team won 4-0.
Despite the strange end to the season, it’s been impressive all-round for Liverpool. They have achieved victory with seven games left to play and are on course to achieve a record number of points if they continue playing well.
This is a big achievement for a club that has been waiting three decades for victory in the league. Of course, they have not been without success over that time. They have achieved the following success since they last won the league:
- Three FA cups.
- Four League Cups.
- One Uefa Cup.
- Two Champions League trophies.
- Three Super Cups.
- One World Club Cup.
It’s this type of success that has led to Liverpool being regarded as one of the most successful clubs in football history.
However, both the team and the fans were desperate to pick up a 19th league title, especially as fierce rivals Manchester United have 20 titles to their name. This is why recent events are such big news.
It’s hardly surprising that there are so many celebrations going on now that Liverpool is Premier League champions. Fans have waited 30 years to watch their team win one of the top leagues in Europe. It remains to be seen what happens next season, and in the coming years. Although, given their current class, it seems likely that more success will come in Liverpool’s way.
