A special edition Nintendo Switch console and controller inspired by the style of Monster Hunter Rise has been announced. This is the second kind of uniquely designed Nintendo Switch to be unveiled so far this year, not long after the announcement of a blue and red colored Switch console inspired by Super Mario.
There has been a collection of specially styled or colored Switches launched throughout the console’s existence, but having two unique Switch styles announced in the same month is kind of unusual. These exclusive Switches are typically reserved for special events, which is why it is shocking to have two exclusive Switches announced within the span of a few weeks. Nintendo does launch new colored Joy-Cons by themselves on more circumstances though, as they are easier to launch than complete consoles with one of a kind paint jobs.
This announcement of a new Switch came from Nintendo of Japan, which has been translated to English by Nintendo Life. Alongside the console, there was also the reveal of a pro controller in an identical Monster Hunter Rise style, and the Switch also comes with the Monster Hunter Rise game.
As of writing, it appears that both the controller and console are exclusively available in Japan. The console is set at a 38,400 yen price tag while the Joy-Con costs 7,480 yen. Both are scheduled for launch on March 26, with preorders going live on February 27, 2021.
Monster Hunter has been on both Nintendo and Sony platforms. The franchise’s debut was on the PlayStation 2, but after Monster Hunter Tri launched on the Wii, the franchise stuck mainly to Nintendo consoles for some time.
It was not until Monster Hunter World launched on the PlayStation 4 that the franchise came back to Sony, but even that entry was launched on other platforms such as PC and Xbox One. Now, Monster Hunter is once again coming to the Nintendo Switch in the form of Monster Hunter Rise, but after this, the future is uncertain for the franchise.
Whether or not the next Monster Hunter launches on the PlayStation 5 or the next Nintendo console, odds are there will be a uniquely colored console launch to go along with it. There was a limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro launched with Rathalos designed on the front of the console to commemorate Monster Hunter World.
No matter the generation, there is a good possibility that there will be ways for fans of the franchise to deck out their consoles in style. In a few weeks, players can have a new Nintendo Switch for themselves along with Monster Hunter Rise on March 26, 2021.
