Mountain Dew is exclusively giving away free PlayStation 5 consoles and a few copies of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. This is not the first time fans can get a PlayStation 5 by way of food since back in October, Burger King began a partnership with Sony, offering free PlayStation 5s to consumers who ordered from the fast-food chain’s mobile app or website.
The video gaming industry has a long tradition of collaborating with food and snacks. One recent and most prominent example of this can be found in Halo Infinite. The new shooting game was set to be a flagship release title for the Xbox Series X|S, but when players were frustrated with the visuals during a reveal event back in July, Microsoft postponed the game indefinitely.
It ended up in development hell for several months now and is expected to be released sometime in Fall 2021. The huge delay hasn’t halted Microsoft from advertising the game vigorously and from offering special in-game content via snack food purchases. Monster Energy, Sour Patch Kids, and Chips Ahoy are all in on a similar scheme, giving away DLC content for a game that won’t be released for almost a year.
However, Halo Infinite is not the only game around for fast food chains to advertise. As posted through a press release on PR Newswire, Mountain Dew is commemorating the release of a new e-shop to sell Game Fuel, an exclusive Mountain Dew brand specially designed to cater to video game players.
The website is being released with special shopping codes and sweepstakes to provide fans generous chances to do the Dew. In addition to a Dr. Disrespect-inspired can of Gamer Fuel, fans can also choose to participate in the new Victory Pass rewards system.
Purchasing cases of Gamer Fuel will provide players an opportunity to win special prizes such as 2x XP tokens for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. The grand prize for the Victory Pass is a special pack that gives Mountain Dew drinkers a PlayStation 5 unit and a copy of the Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War game to partner it with.
Both new-gen consoles have been partnering with various fast food brands this whole year. Fans of Bojangles, for example, were shocked to learn that the restaurant has teamed up with Microsoft to design one special edition Xbox Series X, which was outlined as a box of the famous fried chicken from the restaurant and was given away for free to a single lucky follower on social media giant Twitter. This was surely an unforeseen collaboration from both companies, but it certainly worked wonders from a promotional perspective.
