As man’s best friend, dogs are found in every lifestyle. Travel to Japan, and you’ll find the Hachikō dog statue. You also have famous dogs in pop culture, from Scooby Doo to Santa’s Little Helper.

In gaming and anime, particularly in “Pokémon,” you’ll find creatures you can catch, befriend, and pet that are designed like how dogs appear. This is kinda expected as the Pokémon is filled with almost every type of creature, be they dogs, sea creatures, or birds. Here is the list of every dog Pokémon throughout the franchise’s generations.

Gen 1

Vulpix

Vulpix is a Pokémon that resembles the look of a fox (foxes are still part of the dog family). This Pokémon is sweet and sassy, known for its six pretty tails set high on its rump. With a Fire Stone, it evolves into the gorgeous Ninetales.

Arcanine

Graceful yet very powerful, Arcanine is the evolved form of Growlithe. This dog Pokémon features orange stripes with a beige mane and tail billowing all over its body. Plus, this dog can run at breakneck speed, specifically around 6,200 miles in 24 hours, without losing its poise. Humans can even ride on their backs.

The rest of the Gen 1 dog Pokémons are:

  • Ninetales
  • Growlithe

Gen 2

Granbull

Granbull is a Fairy-type Pokémon, but it still looks like a dog. However, it’s a standing dog. It balances on two legs.

Houndoom

Houndoom will remind you of your Doberman Pinscher. It looks devilish with its black-and-tan coloring, together with its skull locket, large twisting horns, and devil-tipped tale. What a fashionable dog!

Houndooms are pack Pokémons, and their alpha stands out with horns sweeping toward the rear end of their heads. Legends surround Houndooms as it is said that their howls come from the Grim Reaper himself.

Other Gen 2 dog Pokémons are:

  • Snubbull
  • Houndour
  • Smeargle

Gen 3

Mightyena

The evolution of Poochyene, Mightyena, this story’s cover image, has grey stripes and is a pack dog Pokémon. It is a ferocious hunter who uses its tenacity and cunningness to chase down enemies from the commands of its pack leader. More of a follower than a leader.

Electrike

Small but terrible, Electrikes are filled with energy, electricity, and spirit. Bright, they’re also fast, using the electric charge they build up in their yellow and green fur.

The rest of the Gen 3 dog Pokémons are:

  • Poochyena
  • Manectric

Gen 4

Riolu

Riolu also stands on just two feet, and this dog Pokémon knows how to fight. They’re excellent fighters and can make long journeys, though it is small. They also have two specialized organs, apart from their ears, hanging on both sides of their heads. They said these are their “aura energy.”

Shaymin (Sky Forme)

Don’t be mistaken because there are two Shaymin forms of Shaymin in “Pokémon.” The first is the Land Forme, which is a hedgehog-looking pocket monster. This is not what we’re looking for. Its Sky Forme is what resembles a dog.

Other Gen 4 dog Pokémons are:

  • Lucario

Gen 5

Herdier

Herdiers resemble Scottish Terriers in appearance. Their fur is thick and sophisticated, which gives them the power to protect themselves from damage the longer they grow.

Because of those thick furs, a Herdier is expensive to keep and groom. But it is loyal. According to the franchise’s history, it has been with humans for a long time and is among the first Pokémons to partner with people.

Stoutland

A Stoutland weighs 134 pounds! This big-hearted dog Pokémon is a role model of loyalty. Intelligent, kind-hearted, and trustworthy, they are the perfect babysitters for their Trainer’s kids despite their size.

Moreover, their long, thick fur, which is insulating, makes them ideal rescue dogs in cold weather.

The rest of the Gen 5 dog Pokémons are:

  • Lillipup
  • Zorua
  • Zoroark

Gen 6

Braixen

Braixens are Fire-type Pokémons that evolve from Fennekin and to Delphox.

Furfrou

Inspired by the poodle breed, Furfrou is quite a spoiled dog Pokémon. Because it has thick white furs, Trainers are required to groom them constantly, or a Furfrou will revert to its natural trim after five days, and it won’t be beautiful.

Other Gen 6 dog Pokémons are:

  • Fennekin
  • Delphox

Gen 7

Rockruff

Small and sweet, but naughty. A Rockruff is playful, making it tough to raise and train. Its rocks studded into its fur around its neck are used to pound the ground and intimidate its rivals.

Lycanroc

With a name inspired by lycanthropy, this canine Pokémon then resembles a wolf’s looks. It has three forms: Midday, Midnight, and Dusk Forms.

Gen 8

Nickit

Nickit stands out for its intense color. This wily fox dog Pokémon is cunning and intelligent, like foxes in fairy tales, using trickery to steal food from people and its fellow Pokémon. It doesn’t want to work hard and find its own food.

Yamper

Yumper is that dog Pokémon you’d want to keep close to you. Its photographs show it sticking its tongue. This fluffy dog has a bolt-shaped tail and a heart pattern on its rump. Its hobby is to zoom around everywhere. It fancies everything fast-moving – cars, a rushing person, or another speedy Pokémon.

Other Gen 8 dog Pokémons are:

  • Thievul
  • Boltund
  • Zacian
  • Zamazenta

Gen 9

Fidough

Kidding aside, Fidough is a Pokémon that’s both a dog and a bread. Its ears resemble tasty bread buns.

Mabosstiff

Mabosstiff is a boss Pokémon. It is large and heavy, which makes it hard for it to move around. But children love a Mabosstiff.

The rest of the Gen 9 dog Pokémons are:

  • Dachsbun
  • Maschiff
  • Greavard
  • Houndstone
  • Okidogi

Those are all the dog Pokémons in the franchise. Whether or not you are a pet lover, these dogs deserve your attention. Catch them all and pet these friendly Pokémons.
