The world of TV shows is teeming with so many quotable characters. According to Neon Tommy, a Los Angeles-based news source, the list includes Winston Schmidt of “New Girl,” Sue Sylvester of “Glee,” Michael Scott of “The Office,” Blair Waldorf of “Gossip Girl,” and Phil Dunphy of “Modern Family,” among various others.

But perhaps that list won’t be complete without Walter White from “Breaking Bad.” White uttered so many statements that left an indelible mark on viewers. Let’s take a look at some of them.

Who Is Walter White?

White is remarkable. Also referred to as Heisenberg, his alias, he is a villain protagonist in “Breaking Bad.” Portrayed by “Kung Fu Panda” actor Bryan Cranston, he is a skilled chemist who was also the co-founder of a technology firm before he accepted a buy-out from his partners.

One day, White was diagnosed with lung cancer, and since he found out, he turned to a life of crime for the good of others. He decided to manufacture and sell methamphetamine with Jesse Pinkman, his former student, to ensure his family would be financially well after his death.

Most Timeless Quotes From Walter White

1. ‘Say my name.’

No, no, he’s not channeling Beyoncé, but maybe he was. Fans agree that this is the most iconic quote from White in the drama series. It had a massive impact on the show’s fans. But, surprisingly, the show’s writers did not expect that this quote would leave such an indelible mark. As he forced other criminals to recognize his legendary status as Heisenberg, this quote marked the beginning of White’s ego growing to dangerous levels like water levels during a storm. Hence, “Say my name.”

2. ‘I did it for me. I liked it. I was good at it. And… I was really… I was alive.’

Now, he’s channeling Celine Dion. But kidding aside, this quote was from the show’s series finale, particularly from the episode that did not get to redeem him entirely because that would be impossible as he had just grown worse as a person. Facing death and having lost literally everything, he wanted to set right the wrongdoings he committed, though he knew it wouldn’t be enough. Yet, he gave it a shot.

Though his motive for raising money after learning his disease is quote heroic, the story later revealed that he had a different ulterior motive, that he was greedy and wanted more. So for White to say he did it all for himself hit fans really hard, enough to consider that this somewhat redeemed him before the series ended.

3. ‘What the hell is wrong with you?! We’re a family!’

This quote was from the episode believed by many to be the best episode in the whole “Breaking Bad” series as it was the moment everything finally came crumbling down for White. After Uncle Jack Welker took his money and murdered Hank Schrader, all that was left for White was to flee. But first, he came back home to his family to make sure they’d go with him – only to find himself fighting against Skyler, his wife, and his son, which was among the most intense scenes of the series.

The scene showed White already getting delusional, thinking this family would come with him with no question so he was incredulous when they told him they wouldn’t. These words were a tragic reminder of how his family had come to hate him.

4. ‘I am not in danger, Skyler. I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks!’

This quote was from the fourth season, which fans knew as a slow burn as the monotonous buildup of tension in most parts of the season only escalated with explosive scenes during the last few episodes. In this season, the story showed White finally getting close to becoming the drug kingpin he wanted to be. Though not as cold, manipulative, and intimidating as he was in the next season, he was almost there.

This quote was his infamous rant toward his wife. Fans found it ridiculous as it was also a sign his ego had already become unchecked, and that he was willing to try and establish dominance over anybody he thought he could.

5. ‘I watched Jane die. I was there. And I watched her die. I watched her overdose and choke to death. I could have saved her. But I didn’t.’

Enter the fans’ reactions. Here’s another quote from Season 5: around that time White watched Jane Margolis, Pinkman’s neighbor, choking on her own vomit. White decided to do nothing, which made this scene among the most heartbreaking character deaths in “Breaking Bad.” It was clear at this point that Walt was already struggling internally whether to help or not, but he opted not to in the end, believing Margolis’ death would benefit him and Pinkman in the long run.

In the show’s second half, White brought this secret with him. However, when he finally revealed to Pinkman the truth about what happened to Margolis, it did not become a cathartic release for the viewers but a hollowing punch in the gut.
