Twitter was the first to implement this function a few days ago, and Reddit is presently trying to implement a similar feature. Users will be able to utilize this feature to post non-fungible tokens as display photos on Reddit. This is a restricted feature, and because Reddit has already begun testing it, it may soon be available to Reddit members. Other information are pending, as Reddit has yet to remark on its expandability or capabilities.
“We’re continuously looking for new ways to add value to Reddit’s users and communities.” At the moment, we’re evaluating the possibility to utilize NFTs as profile photos (avatars) and verify ownership, “mentioned Tim Rathschmidt, spokesperson of Reddit. “It’s a modest internal test, and no decisions about extending or rolling out the capability have been made.” As of now, Reddit has not made an official announcement about the release date.
This feature will be available to Reddit members without restrictions. Users can display images using any NFT, not simply the Ethereum-based NFTs issued by Reddit last year. For the uninitiated, these Ethereum-based NFTs were dubbed “CryptoSnoos.”
Adding an NFT profile image feature isn’t the only way Reddit has entered the NFT sector. As previously stated, the social networking platform debuted a limited Ethereum-based NFT last year. The term “CrytoSnoos” was developed from a word reference in Reddit’s extraterrestrial mascot.
Snoo’s NFT collections were based on several versions and avatars. Designs have ranged from a Snoo balloon to a blocky representation of the mascot. Reddit is now working on four such varieties and has produced digital collectibles.
“CryptoSnoos represent some of the most breakthrough events in art history,” according to Reddit.
Reddit’s own digital NFTs drew a lot of criticism, with some users calling the move “idiotic.” Many users were also concerned about the pricing of the NFTs. If charges are excessively high, this action may have discouraged many users from participating in the ecosystem.
Other users had expressed neutral feelings regarding the collectibles. When a user purchases a CryptoSnoo NFT, they have the option of linking it to their Reddit account. This NFT image becomes an avatar on the user’s social media handle after they link it to their account.
Reddit had also developed a page that would contain all of the platform’s NFT-related operations. This platform would be dedicated completely to tracking all NFT-related activity on nft.reddit.com.
It’s unclear whether Reddit will ever implement this feature because there’s still a lot of uncertainty surrounding its development. If the feature is formally released, it will add another function to the NFTs. Given the high cost of NFTs, it is only reasonable that users be provided with as many options for displaying these images as feasible.
